This technique of patient transfer will work when the patient has leg strength and mobility. However, if the patient is old or disabled or does not have the strength or energy to get up and walk and support themselves while standing, such as after a stroke, then this technique might not work so well. Old age patient care is tricky and requires a lot of patience.

NO NO NO! Do not use this method. The danger that the client and 'professional' are putting themselves in is unbelievable! The nurse should be by the side of the client at all times so they can be there if the client wobbles and should not be 'bear hugging' them.

At 3:15 she locks the chair prior to the transfer. She "locks" it after....but you can tell it's already locked. Never have the patient put their hands on you.....I feel her position in front of the patient is proper, but should have had a gait belt.

I know, no transfer belt even. That is very unsafe for the patient and the care aid.

You don't want to try this with a Parkinson's patient or anyone else who will lose their balance easy. The low back feels the added pressure when all their weight is pulling against the shoulders.

Rock the patient?? 😮 Uh, NO Way!! THIS IS INCORRECT! The wheel chair isn't even locked during the transfer, AND she LOCKED IT before she left the patient! That is considered a RESTRAINT!

Lock the wheelchair before transfering the patient. When doing the transfer, use the counterweight method so that you don't injure your back. Also, when transfering, do not let go of the patient's knees; keep his knees in between yours' so that if ever he/she loses balance, you won't fall with the patient. This video was a fail.

This really is a terrible example, poor body mechanics for one thing, no transfer belt, grabbing one leg at a time to get the patients legs over the side of the bed. I am going to college right now to be a care aid, this is wrong in many more ways. But that's enough for me.

Is the position of wheelchair in transferring from bed to wheelchair always pointing to the foot of the bed? What about from wheelchair to bed?

Kolica nezakočena. Dosta udaljena od kreveta. Veoma rizičan tranfer.

Why is the chair not locked in Position. Why did you only lock the chair after the transfer. Is this dangerous because the chair could move and cause a fall???

This video is pretty much a fail. The chair wasn't locked. The "nurse" didn't use a gait belt. The chair was too far away. What nursing school is this?

Everyone is saying this is a bad video but I have to learn how to transfer a person with no transfer belt in case they have abdominal problems, so I'm not sure what to do because they won't tell us, they say just use evidence based practice...
