Thank you very much for this video! While searching my issue online this is the first video that came up and it led me right to the problem. In my case I was able to fix my tilt switch so I didn't have to replace it. However, not knowing where to start initially, your video showed me exactly where I needed to investigate.

Thanks mate for the info. It's winter on the east coast of Australia at the moment. I shorted the 2 wires on the tilt switch (exactly the same switch as your video) and heater is now staying lit. Last night we jammed an empty beer can between the control knob and a table to keep it going. Don't need to now. Our heater is much shorter so minimal chance of being knocked over. Cheers :)

This is a great explanation and just what I needed to get my patio heater going again. Isolating the tilt switch as recommended solved the problem. I also took apart tilt switch as someone else recommended but a replacement is still required. The cheap failed microswitch is the culprit. BTW, disregard the humoured, arrogant and opinionated UK guy who obviously thinks his version of English is superior to yours and likely others. Best regards from Down Under.

This was an exact replacement for the old one that lasted about 10 years. kzbin.infoUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh The top of my mitigation tube by my roofline was just a 90 elbow which allowed too much debris to fall down into the fan, eventually ruining it. Without this issue, I bet it would have kept running another 10 years. When I replaced this fan, I added an extra elbow joint so the top tube now it does a 180, which should solve that problem. The radon guys around here wanted to charge me a $300 diagnostic fee, then parts/labor (probably close to $600 total). I installed this all by myself in about an hour for the cost of the fan; it would probably be even easier/faster with two people. FYI the manufacturer's warranty greatly differs depending on whether you install it yourself (1 yr warranty) or have a licensed installer do it (10 yrs).

The thermocouple produces a very low voltage (typically less than 20 millivolts) and current which activates the gas safety valve. The problem is that quite often the tilt switch (sometimes called a dump switch) has contacts that get a little corroded and increase the contact resistance just enough so that the gas safety valve doesn't operate.

I have a similar problem. I have gas but no igniter. Thought it would be simple battery problem. Any suggestions?

Bypassing the tilt switch is dangerous. You DO NOT need to buy a new tilt switch. All it has in it is a ball bearing, a small strip of metal that the ball hits against and pressed against a button that cuts the circuit. The small strip of metal has a round piece of plastic that the ball hits when tilted. That piece of plastic can get hung. Give the tilt sensor a couple taps to see if it releases. If not, carefully pull it apart, which will release it. Press on the plastic that the ball presses against and make sure the button at the other end of the metal strip is going on and out. Real easy fix without sacrificing safety.

Thanks B C. I have not disassembled a tilt switch before, but if I have this problem again I’ll certainly try your suggestion. Hopefully the new switch will last a while before that is needed. Take care!

If the pilot light stays lit, but feeding it full gas results in no audible gas flow, then this is likely your problem. Often you can flip the connectors and marry them to bypass the mercury switch. Obviously, you've just disabled an important safety measure, but it's good for confirming which part needs replacing.

Just an easy way to check the tip switch! Unplug the two wires, slip the plastic covers back just a small amount and slide the two ends together using opposite sides of the slip on connectors. (They will connect easily when two of the four rounded overlays are slipped together!) If your unit now works and lights you know the switch is the problem.

I'm looking for a parts house that I can get a Thermocoupler from? Brand of heater is Inferno I'm in Austin TX, yes it gets cold down here sometimes. 32* out there right now. Mamma's cold out there and I hate starting from scratch and a cold start.
@dogwoodspringsoutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Sorry I don’t have any experience with Inferno. Maybe someone who sees this can offer some suggestions. In my case I just pulled the part number from the old one and searched that on Google. Found what I needed on Amazon. Hope you find what you need so mamma can stay warm.

One other thing to remember is that when the gas is first turned on after a repair or when changing tanks, the propane has to bleed through the tiny pilot orifice before it can ignite. Might take a minute or two and then will fire up.
