Yes I have seen Pennywort take over ponds, people and small towns. It's really a great plant for bog filters and will be easy to contain in this patio pond set up.

One of my fav parts of this build. Definitely love how in-depth you've gotten with the plants towards their care and of course why these plants were chosen....great job

This is a terrific series! So easy to follow and great detail on every step! How would I adapt this for my climate here in Eastern Massachusetts? How can I protect the plumbing from the inevitable freezes and what plants might be better suited? I'm in conversation with my local pond shop, but I would appreciate your opinion!

I LOVE this series of videos, thank you so much for walking us through how to do this! I'm adding a bog filter to my existing koi pond and have a question: I live in the frozen north (Idaho, about 1 mile elevation) I doubt any plants would survive our winters above-soil level like that, so I'm wondering if I could grow...tomatoes, marigolds, annuals...in my bog? Do those throw anything that would hurt my koi? Thank you SO much!

I am having a heck of a time find who sells those large pond plants like you have! I ordered some on-line but they are so small!!
@ThePondDigger8 жыл бұрын
+Tone Poet Yes on line plant sells usually offer small specimens to save on shipping. You will need to find a local supplier or grow them up from small starter plants you get on line. Thank you for watching!

Hi Eric i am just enjoying your presentations, I built my pond watching your videos and it came out quite nicely. Thank you! I live in MD and pond freezes sometimes. what plants should i choose for the bog filter? I really prefer the low maintenance perennials. or do i have to replant every year?
@ThePondDigger9 жыл бұрын
VocalBoothToGo You can certainly plant low maintenance perennials so you don't have to replant every year. If you are in MD, I think you should can my personal friend at Maryland Aquatics. Her name is Kelly Billing. Tell you I asked you to call her and she will get you DIALED in! She is an aquatic plant specialist in your backyard! We will be showcasing her expertise in some of our up and coming youtube videos! Stay tuned!

My koi pond has yellow-green water. It is filtered by a bio filter but because the pond is in the sun all day it will not filter the water so it is clear. I have a water bog that is 3 1/2 feet in diameter and 12 inches deep. I would like to put gravel and place plants so it would help filter the water. Could you please tell me what I need to do? Thank you so much for your comments and recommendations. God bless.

Yes we have worked in Illinois a few times. I have a great pond builder in Batavia IL that I work with and refer people to. Mike White of White Water Filters. Tell him The Pond Digger Referred you if you call! But if you are interested in Mobilizing our team to build for you we would love the opportunity!

great, the pegaga/peawort(?) are plenty on my family pond but since the cement pond is leaking, my brother and i decided to make a momentary properly made pon, maybe we'll use the bog filter system but my question is, does the the bog filter suits for koi fish? or do we still need advamced filtering system since kois are sensitive fish..

first of I must say thanks for the amazing video how cold winter could be where you installed the pond would it bare freezing weather or high temperatures
@ThePondDigger11 жыл бұрын
You can put the bog plants deeper in the water but there is a point when you risk killing the plant. Some plants can handle deeper waters than others.

Your not supposed to use the scissors on elephant ear your supposed to pull downward and remove the whole leaf stem this will cause less shock to the plant and reduce harm to new growth

When I see pennywoth, I cringe in fear. I will never, ever, use this plant in any of my watergardens ever again. The Plant that filters most for me is my Large Taros, the root systems are massive and they grow like crazy without going everywhere.
