From everything that I’ve seen myself of the whole situation, it really seems like Kerry King is bitter about the rest of the guys in Slayer wanting to settle down and take comfort in knowing they’ve established a legacy that will live on years after they’re gone instead of trying to continue pushing that momentum as long as they can, which isn’t fair to the other members as they have families and other important matters they need to attend too in their lives.

I met the band on Divine Intervention tour and to say the least Kerry & Jeff ( Rip) acted like they wasn’t even there and I know that it’s been said a lot that Jeff was that way a lot as that’s just how he was but to me Kerry since it’s his baby would be more personable to his paying fans.Tom & Paul were super cool but that moment always put me off with Kerry King and never thought much of him afterwards.

Cool review and commentary. I really like Kerry King and he never seemed to come off as like the ultimate untouchable guitar shredder. He did write some of the most memorable metal riffs. Those new guitar shapes seem kinda off to me. Almost liked a messed up looking Warlock for the Overlord. I don’t get how the V shape kinda hooks in. It truly is his Frankenstein. I really liked him on the Original BC Rich Warlock, but hey it’s in the eye of the beholder right?

I kive in Tampa and know people who work at Dean. After Dimebag died they fell all over KK after he left BC Rich. At the same time Dean was falling apart. I saw a picture of the earliest models after they were released. Way too expensive. You can still buy signed KK BC Rich guitars for 2 grand all day. Same pickups. Hahaha. Ive got a KK Beast V with the same EMGs for 1200 shipped from overseas. Saw Slayer in a Bar in Jan 87. King has always been a bit stuffy. His guitar playing used to be openly mocked during the 80s but hes gotten better. King has one sound only and hes mastered his. Still love Slayer. Glad the retired the way they did instead of embarrassing themselves by dragging it out like some others have .

Same here. My absolute ceiling for a guitar is $2000, including the case and a “pro” set up. I’m 61, been playing since I was 15 and have yet to actually pay that much, and definitely won’t for a “signature” model from a mass manufacturer. Maybe (MAYBE!) I’d pay that for a custom model built by a luthier in his shop…but that would depend on A LOT of factors, not least having two grand to spare. Per chance to dream…

That’s crazy. Inflation is wreaking havoc on guitar prices. That being said there’s tons of examples. Greeny is a ridiculous price and so is the 79 Flying V… BUT, they can justify them cause they somehow sell them. People are not getting in line to get the KK signatures… As far as Kerry’s impact on the price, you are right. I never said he did, you completely missed the point of this video. this video aged like a fine milk. slayer are back together for a couple of shows. and btw, the 9k guitar is because only 50 were made. it's a collectors item. for instance, any YM start goes from 3.5k to 5k, depending where you're buying. PRS signature models can reach up to 9k.

Are the prices set by the artist or the manufacturer? Consider the target market for these: 40-50 yr old metal head guys who in a lot of cases have a little more expendable income because the kids have left the nest or several of their 18 yr financial commitments are up, so they figure, “why the hell not” 😂

Prices are set by the manufacturer, the artist might have a say and have to sign off on it sometimes but it’s definitely something the brand does. And you make a point there “why not”?. I'm not sure if anyone cares but in 2020, or maybe it was 2021, Kerry stated in a interview that there will be more imports for his Dean V guitar. Kerry's $1,500 import available now is obviously the top import in his line. B.C. Rich did that when Kerry was with them. They had 3 import models for his KKV tribal guitar. The highest most expensive one, obviously, resembling his U.S. custom shop KKV tribal model the closest as far as appearance and features. So if Dean does release more "lower level" import King V guitars, if it does happen, they will probably be like: A $200 model that will probably be a bolt-on, dot inlays and/or no inlays and non EMG pickups. Stripped down basically. A model between the $200 and the $1,500 import. Probably also gonna be a bolt-on, have a Floyd Rose tremolo and EMG pickups but not the Kerry King signature set with the preamp booster. * To be clear, Kerry did not state the models will be like how I described them above. He just stated that there will more imports for his V guitar. In honestly, I don't think it will happen because he said that in 2020/2020.

Definitely. If they make a mid level model that is red, that would definitely get my attention. I understand that black is the gold standard (how's that for irony, LOL) for heavy metal guitars but seeing Kerry's V in red and/or blood red would be neat. Grey and/or silver would also look cool.

Another finish that could, key word here, look cool on Kerry's V and Overlord guitar is forest and/or urban camo. Like the camo finishes on the Jeff Hanneman and James Hetfield's ESP signature guitars. Kerry does have that B.C. Rich: Beast V in red urban camo that looks kind of cool so a Kerry King, Dean signature model in camo would not be a new thing. Obviously we all know that a camo finish and/or any finish won't make a guitar play better and/or won't convince people who hate Kerry's Dean guitars no matter what they look like to buy but there is always that 1% out there that would pull the trigger on buying them.

Im always gonna love slayer's music but its not the ax that makes you good. I got a bc rich beast knock off that sounds great and plays great, never saw the need for signature guitars. I suppose that if i had a signature guitar line id be more into making them look really cool over having asstons of bells and whistles.

I don’t know why artists can’t just put some minor details in the guitar models they are associated with instead of just radically changing the guitar body. Add some cool inlays, pick ups of choice, put signature on the back of headstock. I’ve only owned one signature series and it was the Jimmy Vaughn Fender strat. Very simple but played amazing. Paid $600 for it. Alex Lifeson understands this with his new Limelight series.

I got the ET7 Jackson pro Misha signature and it was an Indonesian made guitar... and let me tell you... the frets were dirty upon arrival.. .brand new sent to me. I honestly will never buy another indonesian guitar. I've had like 5 or 6 over the years from Indonesia and none of them lived up to my standards of what I want in a quality guitar.

I have a Dean Razorback that cost me a little over 1200 bucks Dean guitars aren't very cheap as far as price goes. Not as far as quality not that great. However most American made guitars especially signature guitars do go for that kind of money. And ESP Kirk Hammett Ouija board goes for about $12,000 Perry not the LTD that you can find in stores, know the actual ESP headstock guitar.

It's simply a reflection of the legend of Slayer. It's like artwork by famous artists that go for such astronomical prices and your like, why? Or Baseball trading cards that are worth more than a house. It's not Kerry's attitude, it's the legend of Slayer and of Kerry himself. It's what they did with their career and their musical talent. If you have the money and want to pay it, then you can pay it. And if you don't no big deal. They only made 50 . And then eventually it could be worth way more - like gold. Or the price could drop, but I doubt it. That's what it is.

I'm sure, but are the bands they represent bigger and more influential and long lasting as Slayer? Some of them are obviously - like Metallica. But even if they are, don't forget something about Slayer - their fans are out of their minds. I saw them about 8 times starting with the South of Heaven tour at the Aragon in Chicago. They don't even have seats there anymore because of them. It holds 4 to 5000 people and they used to set up folding chairs, but they were throwing them all over the place. The whole time had to watch for flying folding chairs and that was actually mild compared to some of the things. Comedian Jim Breuer did a skit on Slayer fans that was exactly accurate. Having said that, if just 50 of therm have a job that pays well enough now to afford that guitar, they'll pay it. Some of them will pay it that don't even play guitar. There are collectors with big-money that buy guitars that don't even actually play themselves, or play very little. $8666 is still a huge amount for a guitar though - totally agreed. I think I would feel guilty about not giving that money to the poor instead (unless I was already giving a huge amount to them and thought it was OK to splurge - heh heh) And I don't know if you know this but about 15 years ago, Ed Van Halen came out with an exact replica of his red/black/and white Frankenstein guitar. They used like electron microscopes and the like to take exact measurements of fret wear and everything.That thing cost $25,000 - I kid you not. They didn't sell that many, at least that's what the guys at Guitar Center said but I've heard conflicting reports. @@PatPosse

Wow 25k a 15 years ago went a looooong way!! And you are 100% spot on as far as Slayer fans go. But that's just it though... It's SLAYER fans who are crazy! Most Slayer fans are NOT KK fans, they love the band and the music as a whole but individually most of them would place King dead last when ranking their favorite members. The way I see it it's like being a fan of a Sports Team. You love the players but once they leave to another team you couldn't care less about them lol

Man, I just don't see Kerry allowing any input other than his own in this new "project". All you have to do is go back to the song credits on Repentless. You have Gary Holt, probably one of the greatest riff writers in the world and he only did solos. Now granted I believe it was very important for Kerry to secure his place as the main songwriter on Repentless, the first and last Slayer album since Hanneman's passing.

Regardless what you think of Kerry King personally or his guitar playing without Kerry in Slayer it wouldn't be Slayer Jeff Araya king Dave, gary paul jon fast chaotic evil heavy riffs and screaming rythm and lead thrash metal at its core like they say sometimes don't meet your heroes you might be disappointed, I met him once at a signing in Kosmics in Perth Western Australia no smile hard stern face its the Slayer personality He probably didn't want to be there maybe cause the rest of the band weren't there or he was forced he pulled the shortest straw it was just him he didn't speak looked unhappy like get me the f$k outta here I'd probably feel the same if I was in a well known metal band like Slayer but the main thing I was happy smiling got a signing on my Slayer T shirt got a photo of myself and Kerry I wasn't disappointed 🤘 I've got the kerry king signature Dean V black satin I wouldn't knock it until you try it, really great price looks feels and sounds 🤘 it should be more expensive, its fast smooth playing neck awesome sounding as Ola would say it chugs I ain't a fan of the V shaped guitars but I'm liking this much although I've got 2 in my collection this guitar is definitely worth a look you might be pleasantly suprised and walk out with it paying first obviously it ain't worth going to jail to be someones bitch or be shot My other V is a DBZ from the original creator of Dean guitars it's what he formed after selling Dean guitars he sold that too and now I believe he formed a new guitar manufacturer unfortunately its an online custom guitar maker only online can't try it before you buy but with the pedigree of guitar quality made from this Dean B Zelinsky its probably worth a look too You shouldn't expect a different sound from his new band he's been playing in slayer for 38yrs 1981 to 2019

Kerry certainly knows how to make a lot of cool evil sounding noise and the early Slayer records are legendary, he's a cool guitarist but not some wizard on the neck. That being said I doubt he had much to do with the pricing, that is probably Dean's responsibility. I could see a good Korean guitar going for the price of the 1st one these days but definitely not Indonesia, even if they're assembled by top Indonesian luthiers, I'm sure Dean Corp is paying them at scale in their market and thus trying to inflate their profit margins with these models.

FYI.....KK and many other guitarist who played B.C. Rich guitars moved away from them after the company was sold and they dropped their custom shop who Neil Mosler was their top guitar maker. He has his own brand now Mosler guitars

You obviously have not held or played any of these guitars. The Dean USA custom shop guitars are flawless. $6500 for a usa custom guitar with a signature bridge, a sustainiac, Etc isn't that bad. And $1400 for an Indonesian import is only about $150 more than average. I saw these in person and I think you should play one before you comment on them.

You obviously don’t know who I am or what I have done so maybe you should take a page out of your own book and think or ask before you comment… I was a Senior Guitar Department Manager at the biggest SamAsh, store #33, Miami Lakes for about 8 years and have since managed 2 other stores. I HAVE in fact played MANY Dean USA Custom Shop guitars. Some of them in the Tampa store and, even though Dean is one of the few factories I haven’t visited I can tell you that I know and, have never denied, they can (and have) make great guitars. That being said, production costs, wood quality, manufacturing and other expenses which I know about (and YOU don’t) can’t justify this guitar being that much money when there are so many other equal quality instruments out there with bigger names attached to them for much less. Next time, before you get all high and mighty, and start throwing the word “obviously” around; make sure you actually know something the person you are commenting to doesn’t. 😉
