It is clear the pianist can feel the music. I once had the privilege of having Jeremy Menuhin to my home. I warned my family not to pester him to play our piano. After dinner he asked if he could play my baby grand. When he asked for a request I said, "Anything by Chopin". He played a couple of pieces that were very difficult and impressive, but then said "That was to warm up. Now I will play real music". He played "Raindrop". It brought tears to our eyes it was so beautiful. It remains one of my happiest memories, and the performer's rendition reminds me of it.

You can hear how Chopin was feeling, in terms of health, in the piece. Moments of feelling better, then moments of feeling worse, then better again. True artistry in music comes when you can hear an artists emotion and feelings, and a story, simply through music alone with no words necessary. This, this is art.

I think the piece is heavily influenced by Chopin’s health at the time. It has that one note that runs throughout it like a heartbeat. Yet is encounters trepidation and gets more intense, all the pain and suffering carried forward with that same heartbeat that was paired with an innocent melody in the beginning. After the deeper darker tones in the middle it finally gives way to a last hopeful reprieve. Even through the hard times a beautiful piece can be found and preserved forever. Just my little take on it

My translation of the intro (may have some mistakes): 'The raindrop prelude of Chopin is among the most familiar piano works in all piano literature. It's also the longest of the preludes as a stand-alone concert piece. Frederic Chopin his partner George Sand (French authoress) left Paris. To get away, - Chopin was not well with his tubercular state for which there was no cure at the time - they went to Spain, to the island of Majorca. They stayed at a monastery in Valldomosa. The monastery was abandoned and Chopin was in a fevered state as he was working on his preludes from the opus 28 collection. George Sand returned from the village and found him composing this piece on the piano as if in a trance or a prayer. She nicknamed it actually "the raindrop" because it reminded her of the rainstorms in Valldomosa. Frederick Chopin didn't care too much for nicknames to his works, but it remained till today the famous raindrop prelude opus 28, number 15.'

I love this piece, no two people ever play it the same way! I think many pianists play it slowly because it's among the first more expressive (and long) pieces they learn so they form a relationship with it and perhaps overdo slowing it down to "milk it". in any case I like your approach to the song! thanks for sharing! By the way I heard from another pianist that the A-flats were to resemble Chopin's anxious heartbeat while he was alone, awaiting the return of loved ones.

The most amazing piano song I've ever heard. Makes my eyes well up when I hear it. Especially when he gets into it at 3:43 like MsKTMvalley said.

My all time favourite piece. Iv'e been through some bad bouts of depression since I lost my Girlfriend of four years recently and this piece never fails to make me sad but hopeful all at the same time. Interesting pacing.
