It is clear the pianist can feel the music. I once had the privilege of having Jeremy Menuhin to my home. I warned my family not to pester him to play our piano. After dinner he asked if he could play my baby grand. When he asked for a request I said, "Anything by Chopin". He played a couple of pieces that were very difficult and impressive, but then said "That was to warm up. Now I will play real music". He played "Raindrop". It brought tears to our eyes it was so beautiful. It remains one of my happiest memories, and the performer's rendition reminds me of it.

@@Tywild327 And now it's making its largest comeback to date! They lost a lot of OG fans after Halo 4 and especially 5. Now with MCC coming to PC, and Infinite returning to its roots AND also coming to PC, the future couldn't look brighter. Really hope this goes well for 343i. On a side note, this is one of the finest pieces of music ever written, fitting for a game like Halo 3. Wouldn't be surprised if Marty took a lot of inspiration from Chopin when writing for Halo 3 and ODST.

Mr. Kiepura, you touched all my strings playing this piece by Chopin. Some years ago I visited his home in Valldemosa, and I almost felt his and G. Sands presence in the rooms and in the beautiful garden. We didn't listen to music when I grew up here in Norway, but as an adult I enjoy music so much, and very often I start crying because, as tonight, my "strings" are set in emotion! Thank you!

You can hear how Chopin was feeling, in terms of health, in the piece. Moments of feelling better, then moments of feeling worse, then better again. True artistry in music comes when you can hear an artists emotion and feelings, and a story, simply through music alone with no words necessary. This, this is art.

I think the piece is heavily influenced by Chopin’s health at the time. It has that one note that runs throughout it like a heartbeat. Yet is encounters trepidation and gets more intense, all the pain and suffering carried forward with that same heartbeat that was paired with an innocent melody in the beginning. After the deeper darker tones in the middle it finally gives way to a last hopeful reprieve. Even through the hard times a beautiful piece can be found and preserved forever. Just my little take on it

The best performance of this Chopin Prelude I've heard. In other performances, the repeated right-hand notes are either too heavy or imbalanced with the left hand. Granted, it's a difficult balance to strike, but Mr. Kiepura did an outstanding job. This is a keeper.

My translation of the intro (may have some mistakes): 'The raindrop prelude of Chopin is among the most familiar piano works in all piano literature. It's also the longest of the preludes as a stand-alone concert piece. Frederic Chopin his partner George Sand (French authoress) left Paris. To get away, - Chopin was not well with his tubercular state for which there was no cure at the time - they went to Spain, to the island of Majorca. They stayed at a monastery in Valldomosa. The monastery was abandoned and Chopin was in a fevered state as he was working on his preludes from the opus 28 collection. George Sand returned from the village and found him composing this piece on the piano as if in a trance or a prayer. She nicknamed it actually "the raindrop" because it reminded her of the rainstorms in Valldomosa. Frederick Chopin didn't care too much for nicknames to his works, but it remained till today the famous raindrop prelude opus 28, number 15.'

I love this piece, no two people ever play it the same way! I think many pianists play it slowly because it's among the first more expressive (and long) pieces they learn so they form a relationship with it and perhaps overdo slowing it down to "milk it". in any case I like your approach to the song! thanks for sharing! By the way I heard from another pianist that the A-flats were to resemble Chopin's anxious heartbeat while he was alone, awaiting the return of loved ones.

I'm a 52 yr old novice and I'm learning this and Waltz Op 69 no. 1 and I enjoyed your history narrative. It really helped to give me the proper mindset to approach learning the piece. I enjoyed how you played the beginning melody very melancholy and a feel of longing. During this time he must have been going through some inner and physical turmoil and was fighting hard to be almost repent like to endure and continue on. It is a more dark piece, but it was played beautifully, thank you.

I have never heard a more powerful piece of music. (3:43) Those Chords are blowing my mind, then comes the build up and back into the strong banging chords so simple and effortless but so effective in the piece. I would love to learn how to play this on guitar!

+Ticky O'Meally You can try to listen to Chopin’s 20th prelude in C minor. It’s a shorter piece but also has dramatic chords. Thanks for listening - Marjan Kiepura

Brilliant! This song brings me so many sweet memories from my youth. Thanks Carl Stalling for immortalizing so many songs like this on cartoons and making it possible for kids to listen to them. Correct, the Raindrop Prelude is a remarkable piece. One of the most familiar in all of piano literature, it is a stand-alone concert piece in every sense. I never get tired of practicing or performing it. Thank you for your comment. Marjan Kiepura
