I worked for an NHL organization for a period of my life and I remember the Bruins were in town one game. Bergeron made an effort to acknowledge everyone working in the lower levels of the arena, from volunteers to security to interns, if he saw you and made eye contact, he would say something. Bergeron is a class act and he deserves every bit of success he has had.

I can vouch for this comment. I valeted for the Bruins during the 2018 Stanley Cup in Boston and he gave me a handshake daps and a hug while in line at Dunkin in the Garden. He recognized me and gave me big ups! Love PB37 👍🏻💪🏻🐻

Bergeron is the man. Loved the comments about Marchand. I have zero issues with any fans outside of Boston hating him. But Boston fans know he is indeed a great person and class act "off" the Ice. Always at the children's hospital and things like that. Always making people smile. Marchand holds Bergeron in such reverence, there is no doubt if Marchand played anywhere else, on any other line, he's probably not the elite player he is today and he's said that many times. Bergeron does keep Marchand on the rails most of the time simply because Marchand hates letting Bergy and the team down.

People underestimate Marchand's commitment to improvement. I recall early on his propensity to hold onto the puck too long , get fancy, then lose it. Now, he's one of the premier puck possession guys in the league. Quick release but little accuracy? Now he hits like there's a laser sight on his stick. Hell, thanks to Bergeron getting booted off the dot half the time, he's probably got a great faceoff stat. Yes, he gets wild. Yes, his trolley can jump the tracks. But there's also been games they've won they wouldn't have if Marchand didn't strap the team to his back and carry it with shear will.

The basic stats don't match up to Gretzky, ovi, jagr, etc...sure, but he's always been at least above average offensively, and the defensive aspect makes up for the numbers keeping him from the absolute top.

He recreated the importance of winning the faceoff. His stats suffered because after the 07' season he led the team in points with 70, but was a -28. He swore he wouldn't allow himself to be - minus player. He would only allow himself to be a player who would play both ends of the ice! So it's not that he didn't have the talent to be a big point producer. He just took pride in playing being great as a complete player as there EVER was! Hard pressed to name one better! 11 straight seasons to finish top 3 in voting for an individual trophy again is going to be tough to beat! Orr is on another level, but Bergy knocked down, Neely & Bourque & he's my favorite player behind Orr!

Lifelong Habs fan, I have always loved the Boston rivalry, to me, it is the biggest rivalry in hockey. Boston being such a competitive team it makes it sweeter to beat them, unlike the leafs which is like beating a dead horse. I root for Boston if they're in the playoffs and Montreal is not. Patrice is pure class. loved the interview.

As a teenaged Bruins fan, I hated the Canadiens in the '80s. They always beat Boston in the playoffs. Eighteen consecutive playoff series victories, going back to the '40s. The last four were in '84, '85, '86, and '87. When the Bruins finally beat them in '88, in Montreal no less, it was even more satisfying to me than winning the Cup in 2011. I attended a Bruins game at the Forum in '91 or '92 and no one bothered me, even though I wore a Bruins sweatshirt (there were several thousand more Bruins fans in attendance). I've always remembered that. Now that I've seen many Boston sports championships (and mellowed with age), I'm much more casual about being a fan, and the hate for rivals has turned to respect. I will be happy for whatever Canadian team ends the national Stanley Cup drought.

haha totally agree. I lived in Montreal for 20 yrs as a huge Bruins fan and was brave enough to put a Bruins bumper sticker on my car. When we see both those historic jerseys together on the ice, it's a beautiful love/hate feeling. The Leafs don't bring that emotion, they're just annoying. Bergeron is my favorite player of all time - all around class act product of Quebec.

A lot of veterans might think that they don't have anything to learn from their young teammates. But Bergeron here is basically admitting that even though he's in the final stages of his nhl career, he's still learning things himself.

I really appreciate how he handles other people's emotions. It was mentioned when a teammate is upset or angry he's the type of leader to quickly address it and move forward. I feel it's important for any team to have someone with his outlook on life and just general respect for those around them.

@@AWCTB yep, you got it -Boston is his home, and he plans on working with Boston to expand hockey - but I don't know that he'd be working directly with the nhl/ahl bruins. That doesn't expand hockey. He's going to be in a more historic role. this is actually been in the news over the last 10 years and the NHL doesn't cover it I'm in alaska, I notice sometimes we get different internet news than the lower 48 - the boy-child prime minister of Canada has gotten involved in NHL affiliation teams - he was pissed that Vegas was chosen a few years ago He wants to bring a team back to Montreal and that would be the nordiques. The past 3 years when bergeron's retirement has come up, the scuttlebutt about him going to Montreal would also arise and we knew darn well he would never ever be a Hab. Yep Patrice did make statements that he would like to help develop more hockey teams.. So that's why I think if bergey's going to get involved in DEVELOPING any NEW team, it would be the bringing back the nordiques. He just stated in his interview last week, Boston is his home - (it is a lot like liberal Canadian cities) But I think he may get involved on some level with the nordiquess cuz he wants hockey back in Montreal and all they have are Habs I could see him bringing Nordiques back to his hometown. He has never said a flat out "no" to involvement in Montreal Canadian hockey leagues, just no to Habs He's been asked this question directly, reporters have stopped asking cuz they know he's not going to answer - and they won't get interviews with Patrice if they keep annoying him with the same questions! So he could very well end up bringing back the Nordiques Who could turn out to be an affiliation for the bruins! Could you imagine that rivalry between a new Boston affiliate Nordiques team and the Habs! They'll be riots in the streets! Lol!

Been a bruins fan since I was 5 years old, I am currently 38. I have seen so many ups and downs over the years, but the last 12 years have been a great run to be a bruins fan. We have been constant contenders and an elite team for so long, it is almost impossible tone that good for that long, and one of the major reasons why the bruins have been so consistent over the past 12 seasons is truly because of players and leadership the caliber of Patrice. We are currently off to a great start, and are playing like champions right now. Let’s bring it home this year boys, so Patrice and krejci can ride off into the sunset as champions, and we can turn the page and rebuild and hopefully do it all over again. GO B’s!

As someone who speaks just one language, I'm always impressed at how well Bergeron speaks English, considering that he spoke none when he came to Boston at age 18. Most people who are fluent in another language learned as a young child. (Here in the U.S., most kids don't study a foreign language until age 12. As a result, almost none become bilingual.) During Bergeron's first months with the Bruins, he said that at a restaurant he would just point to a picture on the menu, if there were any, or order whatever a teammate was getting.

As Quebecois, he impressed me a lot. But I would say it's the effect of full immersion for years. Denis Potvin, Marcel Dionne, Gil Perreault, Martin St-Louis, Marty Brodeur , Mario Lemieux and so and are very fluent, but, as opposed to most Swedish or Germans, they were not fluent at all when they were 18.

I'm 55 and am old enough to remember the Bobby Orr/Esposito Bruins. To me, in terms of how this young man conducts himself on and off the ice, he may be the greatest Bruin of them all in terms of both on and off the ice accomplishments. Bobby Orr always get the loudest ovation when former Bruins are seen at Garden events, but I believe, years after Patrice has hung up his skates, he will be getting the second loudest, eclipsing Bourque. In my mind, he has become the yardstick by which all future Bruins will be forever measured.

Friedman tries really hard, multiple times, to get Patrice to admit that the Maple Leafs, and playing/beating them, are important to him. In the diplomatic polite way that he does things, Bergeron keeps his integrity and brushes it off and continues to bring up the Canadiens. He's being interviewed in Toronto, by a Torontonian that is also Leafs fan, on a Toronto-centric network that clearly loves to talk about the Leafs. Most players would kowtow and Bergeron does not. Bergeron's first shift on ice, I turned to my ex-wife and said- he's going to be a super star! He has the 'it' factor. Not to get the Selke each year is a travesty... but I guess there are other players in the league too.... I don't remember the year or the game, but I remember he was young, new but roughed up in the crease after a goalie tied it up, and he had every right to punch, fight and defend himself, but he just looked at the goon and I think he thought, you are not worth me going in the box, I am about to score or do something positive... and he did. His 'executive function' is second to none. I love that a legend like Recci has such cool memories of another legend. My nephew had the hockey sense to have loved Bergy also since he could skate at age 3 or 4, and watch the B's. Maybe I helped steer him in the right direction? Rocco is now 23, and Bergy still fav! With Lindholm and Coyle. On and off the ice he earns admiration every minute of every day. To be so great and so humble is rare. Total respect! Please play in Boston until it is not fun for you anymore! And I hope that is never. Patrice's Pals is yet another way this good human's big heart shows through. His answer to each question is thoughtful and considered. He is well above average in every way! As I listen to this again, I hear him say 'yin and yang' and be in the now. He is a Zen Master.
