Jeff Skinner will always be a kid to me with an ear to ear smile whenever he scored, to me. Detractors gonna detract - but that kid loves to score.

Pens vs Caps felt like 2024. Because they never would be caught dead fighting each other for the last playoff spot before 2018/2019.

Thank you for the Wyatt praise. To paraphrase Tyler Seguin, whatever Wyatt’s eating at the Pavelski house, just keep on feeding him. It’s almost unfair that Dallas has another Uber-talented playmaker that’s going to get better.

Rangers missed the playoffs in 93 because Brian Leetch got hurt and the team fell apart after that. As for winning the Stanley Cup after missing the playoffs, the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup in 1969, missed in 1970 and won the Cup in 1971. I don't know if any other team has done that. Also, the one official I can remember with facial hair was Matt Pavelich, which is a long time ago. He had a mustache. There may have been others but I can't think of any right now.

Those 3 Hart Trophy groups you are saying, I think you can probably push the Hellebuyck and Crosby group down and add as #2 the people obsessed with Austin Matthews just due to the fact Toronto is the center of the hockey universe. For some reason the voters are weighing goals much more than they have in the past for some reason. The year Selanne got 76 goals, he was 6th in Hart voting, just as an example, many more examples like this in the years to follow, but this is one of the more glaring ones. Personally the 2021-22 the year Matthews won the hart, with 17 less points, I'd much rather have the player 17 more points overall than the extra goals. The gap is even bigger this year, I think 30+ points. Also voters have seems to be voting for goalies much less these days as well. 2 goalies got 3rd place in the last 10 years, much more rare than in the past.

Maybe cause goals are more valuable than assists? Maybe because he’s having one of the greater goal scoring seasons of all time? While being one of the best defensive forwards in the league? It’s not a Toronto bias if the stats back it up. Yes he isn’t leading the league in points but that shouldn’t take away anything from his strengths just like nobody mentions kucherovs defence they mention his offence because that is his strength

Uh, I think it's more likely because Matthews is on the verge of a historic 70-goal season if you haven't noticed.
@Zeneroth

@@RayManzarekRocks someone hasn't scored 70 goals recently I'll grant you. you clearly need to google the definition of the word "historic".
@RayManzarekRocks

@@Zeneroth Only eight players have scored as many as 70 goals in a season in the 106 years of the league. So, yeah, any unbiased person would call it an historic achievement. (And I never Google anything.)

I feel like the hipster group also has Quinn Hughes in there, and the hot take group also has Roman Josi in the Hart conversation. I get why people feel the way they do about IF Crosby gets the Pens in. But how could anyone seriously think the Hart is going to anyone other than McDavid, MacKinnon or Kucherov?

Regarding the Rangers "dialing back" Matt Rempe, it's not before time. I think you missed an important issue in your discussion, and that is the recent suicide of Chris Simon (52) a long time "enforcer." He was suffering from, I believe, Stage 4 CTE, and the amount of brain damage, and shrinkage, involved is chilling. All hockey players, of course, are at risk for concussion, but the fighters' risk is exponentially greater.

I just saw Subban’s and a few other “alpha” comments on the line brawl. I wonder when they talk about the “excitement”, the rush, the entertainment, the people standing on their feet, if they thought about the moments before Simon and any of the other former enforcers took their own lives. If their lives were worth your 2 minutes of entertainment. Or is it not convenient to? I know close relatives of one of the guys in the line brawl. I cringe at the fact that somewhere down the road, they may have to face the same situation as the Simon family. In the case of Subban and a few of these former players, I don’t know if “appalled” is too harsh of a word but some of these guys may be friends or you are in a similar ”fraternity”. Saying they know what they’re getting into isn’t good enough and not true at all. No one thinks about committing suicide at 27, 28, 35, or 52 the day they put their first pair of skates on.

@@conroche1535 Eighty percent Canadiens. They see the NHL as teams comprised of individuals. Eighty percent of Americans see it as individuals who comprise teams. It's a major reason why Canadian teams haven't won a Stanley Cup in 31 years and so few non-Canadians with talent want to play there.

Nobody expects Rempe to fight every game. But he's a cheapshot artist. That's a fact. So unless that changes it's only a matter of time before he is justifiably removed from the league by force.
