I had never really heard of Patrice until I saw some other KZbin videos recently; this guy was at least a full decade ahead of the curve for what comics would be facing. The "culture wars" and the battle over whether humor is free speech or not, and what kind of humor constitutes hate speech...? Patrice was thinking about that battle and fighting it at least ten years before it caught up to other comedians. He's scathingly funny! I'm super impressed at how he can make you laugh AND be uncomfortable by thinking about how shallow, weak, and inconsiderate I am as a human being. I think we lack comedians talented enough to be as funny with the subject matter as you must be to skate above the PC horseshit. When you get gigs for having the right political opinion, you never have to learn how to make your own mindset and viewpoint incredibly funny. Patrice had no other choice, and as one of the most naturally comedically talented people of all time he made it happen. I don’t expect this from most comedians, because they simply never will be the legend Patrice is. RIP to one of the true greats.

Patrice was and is such a legend in comedy, it’s hard to believe any can fill his shoes. It was always amazing to hear the reverence for Patrice from various other sharp, witty, famous road tested comedians talk. They talked about how formidable O’Neil was for THEM - when they got together and start going after each other with competitive trash taking. Patrice was the undisputed king even in the toughest rooms around. Their is no heir to that crown.
