Young opera superstar Patricia Janeckova has wowed millions with her precise technique and outstanding performance of "Les oiseaux dans la charmille" from "The Tales of Hoffmann." However, Elizabeth has somehow NEVER heard this beauty sing, despite spending the last 15 years as a professional opera singer.
Join Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Patricia for the first time, performing "The Doll Aria."

So very sad to hear that Patricia Janečková has lost her battle with breast cancer. I've followed her career since she was 12yo or so and this is such a sad loss. I always found that her voice had such a 'playful' quality to it in her early years which I found totally charming (listen to her singing La Pastorella dell'Alpi kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXLHc5iCo9mWbrM ). Huge condolences to her husband and family.

Is that why they had to carry her in? Seriously, she's got a great technique at a young age---very smooth and relaxed with slight head tilt to her right---but if you're implying that she will keep getting better and better that is unlikely. This could be her peak for all we know, especially since the lock downs are holding everyone back. She needs to maintain what she's got and make small improvements over time if she is lucky.

John M. They carried her in because she was doing the whole doll schtick from the opera which has this specific aria. As for improving, the recording being reacted to is 4 years old so I'm sure she's improved since then. Wonderful voice and technique.

@jewelmarkess
@jewelmarkess Жыл бұрын
She is much better than Amira or at least she is an opera singer while Amira is pop or, if you prefer, classical crossover. Amira could not even approach this difficult aria. Amira only sings a couple of simple arias with a mic as well as pop songs. Do you see Patricia holding a mic? No, she doesn't need it because she can project. The performance is recorded, so obviously there are mics for that, but notice how far she is from them. She'd blow them if she were to get closer. Not only Patricia had a beautiful voice, she studied and worked hard to be able to sing in operas in an opera theater and she also acts and expresses what she sings. (edited to add) Even as a child, she didn't just produced "beautiful noise", she sang with good technique and even then expressed the meaning of the words she sang.

@jewelmarkess
@jewelmarkess 9 ай бұрын
@@michaelhirst4191 Singing without microphone is only one difference, with an orchestra btw and a chorus and being heard over both of them. The fact that she doesn't sing any difficult opera arias, much less sings in operas is another. Patricia sang roles in opera in her native country, she sang Pamina in The Magic Flute. She got sick just as her career was starting, but this was her goal and she had both the talent and training for it. As to the microphone, in the past, Broadway performances weren't unamplified, there was still the difference between Broadway singers and opera singers and vice versa, as each genre had its own difficulties. Also, some time in the past, popular singers sang with full voice and the technique similar to classical, again, it was still a different genre. BTW do you really have no clue how difficult the aria that Patricia sings here is? It's not "O mio babbino caro" which if you only look at notes is the easiest soprano aria there is in opera. What makes it difficult is artistry, evenness, legato line. Diction and expression, artistry - expressing the emotion of the words and music as well as the personality of the character that sings is extremely important. It's very important in instrumental classical music as well, but in vocal music you not only When Patricia sang even something as simple (in terms of notes) as O mio babbino caro as a child, she was expressive and had good diction while Amira couldn't care less about the words or phrasing. Incidentally, why do people like you insist on mixing up genres? Amira choose a different genre, she didn't choose to pursue opera. Why do classical crossover fans want to insist it's opera? Is "opera" some kind of an honorary title for you? It's a profession.

E creio que com a Patrícia, ela não suportou esse tratamento tão pesado que agride muito o corpo humano. Mas Deus sabe o que faz, se ela tivesse ficado viva, ia sofrer ainda mais. It is nice to finally find an American who appreciates Patricia like I have come to appreciate her music and her acting ability over the last nine to ten months. Before that time I had never listened to opera by anyone, but after hearing some of her performances when she was young, I began to appreciate her opera and especially when it was penned by Mozart or in a duet. I have listened to at least five videos of other sopranos singing their version of "Song to the Moon." Some of them are among the best female opera singers according to rankings I found on the internet. All of the versions were very good, but in my opinion none of them were quite the qualitative level of Patricia's version of the same song. E. Hi try Franco Correlli for stunning powerful voice and beautiful singing. I saw a bit of Pavarotti complimenting Corelli mentioning Corelli had vocal chords of steel. He was a good looking bloke a smoker 😱 there is no equal to him these days. He does a fabulous O Lola from Cavalleria just 2 minutes long Also his questa o quella unbelievably dynamic I think your listeners are likely to love him, the ladies would enjoy his good looks. Ps you are a brilliant reviewer and very pretty. I love most types of music home free are excellent my favourite type is opera Remember losing one of my galoshers(overshoes) In a snowdrift here in UK on a train to watch la forza del destino about 55 years ago it was brilliant finished off with a couple of pints🤪 if you read this far thanks 🌹🌹👏👏🇬🇧😁

As an opera lover, I really appreciated you reviewing this young opera singer. With young and unknown singers, my untrained ears cannot always discern great talents. Your professional opinions give me confidence to enjoy this young lady's performances from now on.That makes me think, I wish you could use this channel to discover and promote young and unknown talents in the classical singing/ opera world.

I had never heard of Patricia Janeckova until very early, this Sunday morning , when I accidentally found her on KZbin - was absolutely captivated by her rich , sumptuous soprano voice - and then was devastated to learn she had tragically succumbed to cancer last year at the very early age of 25 . There was only one full audio recording I could find ( to purchase) , which was made when she was still in her teens , and the rest of her ( later , post - teenage years’ ) oeuvre seemed to mainly comprise video recordings created by/for her , posted on KZbin . I was overjoyed at the discovery of this young , gifted soprano , but am so saddened and depressed that her life ( which could have fully blossomed into a burnished operatic career ) was so brutally truncated by cancer . Life can be so cruel and unforgiving …..

I discovered her several years ago and was looking forward to seeing her maturing and taking on the world but my life was so busy I didn't do regular searches for her new recordings, I guess I assumed there will be giant posters advertising her concerts everywhere soon and I will be reminded that way, then last night I had some time before going to bed and I thought I'd do a search for her and that's how I learned she's passed away last October. Just tragic, such a voice and such a talent gone. It really depressed me and even though I have tons of stuff to do, I'm just browsing YT now looking for her recordings. If you haven't heard her sing "Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém" in the concert in Berlin in Britzer Garten (sometimes in the second half of the crappy vid recorded by an audience member, maybe next to the last piece), look it up (put her name there and Berlin and the place). I couldn't contain my tears hearing her rendition. I will be looking for other recordings of it by her, too

Up until I found Dimash, I never had much interest in Opera (I know he's not Opera but he's certainly not like most music I hear here in America). But I remembered that you had a background in this, and thought that I'd enjoy your input- I was not disappointed in the least! I have a newfound respect for the vocals involved. I figured you might enjoy this one. Didn't know you had performed it yourself! That makes you the ideal critic for Patricia's presentation. Her performance isn't perfect. (I haven't yet heard a perfect performance of this aria.) But you spotted the characteristics of her singing that have elevated her in European operatic circles at such a young age. Pure and gorgeous tone, consistent vocal character throughout her range, superb timing, very good (but not perfect) staccato accuracy, fine acting. I'll add, she's charismatic. Always a good thing when playing to an audience. I hope you'll be able to introduce more operatic works to your viewing audience!

@@lavinial4864 It's Offenbach's fault. The part was written to be extremely difficult, almost an earlier century version of 'Diva Dance,' but instead of vocal range being nearly impossible, it's the rapid fluidity of notes that he demands. Many sopranos can't sing this aria at all; they will wobble off into incoherence. Patricia gets through it as well as anyone I've heard. She is a true master. But if you slow the track down and measure the pitch of each note, you'll come up with tiny flaws, almost imperceptible when playing the recording at normal speed. The human larynx is not a machine, after all. To dare to sing such a difficult piece, and to get through it as well as Patricia does, is as close to divinity as we can come in this mortal realm.

I have this performance in my playlist for a few years now so when I saw you reacted to it I had to see it immediately. Love your insights as I don't listen to opera very much and I'm not that knowledgeable. I always loved her tonal quality and the cheekiness of the whole performance. And even for a noob like me it was very clear the difficulty is off the scale compared to most music I come in contact with. I love the little details, the cheeky way she looks around, the eye-contact she makes with one of the orchestra at 7:37 and of course her singing. I enjoyed it very much.

If only there were more teachers who could teach at that level. Yes, she was and is a mature student, but the student can only be as good as the teacher can train. Especially in this kind of performance. There are a lot of natural singers, but to know not to try for the A flat but keep it at the E for better resonance takes a good student and a better teacher. Awesome vocal motor control. I wish there was a bigger audience for this style of music. Thankfully the new generation does have it's Aramia Willihagen, and Alma Deutscher and a few others to look forward to.
