I'm from Rome, Italy. When I watched the NBA games in the early 90s Pat Ewing was one of the most beloved by us italian guys. He was always correct in the game and above all very charismatic. I always liked the fact that he was always in the Knicks despite not winning anything ... and he deserved it. A great man even in life!

Not the best big man in history but the biggest in my heart. First, I was a Georgetown alum when he signed with my Alma Mater and got all those thrills watching him play for GU. Then, he was drafted by my NBA team that I grew up rooting for, The Knickerbockers! I've seen snarky remarks about Ewing being on the wrong end of a lot of highlight dunks, but I respect anyone who prioritizes contesting a shot over worrying he could be put on a poster. Ewing is the most charismatic center I've ever seen. Not the most skilled but surely the King of the warriors. When it's about Pat Ewing, peoples just have to remember his intensity during the games, how his teammates (not the most skilled) love him and fight with their captain, the sound of the Madison Square Garden, how the crowd was hot for the opponents. During the 90's, all the centers in this league, olds and youngs, were rated as very good or average after playing Big Pat. Ask to Zo Mourning, Chris Webber, Shaq how much it was hard to play Ewing. Each game of this guy was special. Sometimes, it was a battle. And people love him for that. Big Pat had retired since 2002 and had never been replaced in people hearts. Big respect to Pat Ewing!

I have one image of Ewing in my mind like it was yesterday: Knicks against Yugoplastica. Ewing gets the ball on the free throw line, with his back to the basket and four tall players between him and the basket. He took one dribble turning towards the basket, lowered the left shoulder as he often did and slam dunked it like a freight train. That is still the definition of the monster move, for me.

Tod Wilkinson Top 10 my ass, you have done nothing but spout what ifs, and what could have been, Ewing had a hall of fame worthy career, but he doesn't even crack the top 5 Centers of all-time, he was injury prone and had weak knees, he couldn't carry his team and win a ring. I don't blame him for that but the top 5 Centers all have stepped up, and help win a ring(s) for their team.
@RaulsTacos10 жыл бұрын
Tod Wilkinson Wilt never faced Jordan, so that argument is irrelevant to my point, Ewing is not better than Thurmond, Wilt, Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Kareem, Russell, or Mourning. Also, as long as Hakeem, Wilt, and Kareem are remembered, Ewing could never be the best Post up big man.
@RaulsTacos10 жыл бұрын
Tod Wilkinson Your argument was weak, Wilt did have a jumper that he favored in the high post, there is actually video footage of it on youtube, check Wilt Chamberlain archive, most of Wilts shots came from post moves including the fadeaway and fingerroll, i checked the stats and Wilt trumps Ewing, The 20/10/2 is decent, but Wilt at 36 averaged 13/18/4.5 assists, with a record .727 fg%, that was when he was older, you can't even compare Ewing to Wilt, Wilt is superior in every category, every single one. Had they kept blocks, Wilt would have easily averaged 5+ bpg, he was unstoppable and unguardable, and played on the only team to beat the undefeated Celtics in the playoffs, Ewing couldn't even get a ring in a diluted expansion league, Wilt averaged 30 rpg in the playoffs btw, thats how dominant this man was, or when he averaged 8.6 apg in the playoffs as a center, unbelievable, tell me, when did ewing lead the league in Assists? Or lead the league in rebounding during his whole career? When did Ewing have to face a defensive center like Russell? A matter of fact when did Ewing face a team as talented as the 60's Celtics? Not even Jordan is better than Wilt, so how the fuck are you going to compare a Center who isn't even a consensus top 5 Center, lmao.
@bosskey72123 жыл бұрын
When Patrick first came in to the NBA he was mainly a rebounder and shot blocker but through hard work and dedication he developed one of the prettiest jump shots and face up/post up games for a big man that I've ever seen. Injuries and father time eventually caught up to him in the late 90's but in his prime Ewing was one of the best ever. He gets forgotten alot because of the era he played in because there were a lot of great big men in his era and Jordan of course who reigned over everyone. It was a great time to be a basketball fan.

This man was the perfect 'Big Man' for me. He had the size, the power, the skill, and even the agility to get the better of his opponents. It was just that other teams had a better supporting cast for their stars like what Hakeem had for their Rockets team thatʼs why they won championship titles. But for me (and I believe even for a lot of people), Patrick Ewing was a lot more complete of a player than his contemporaries and even more over Kareem and the acclaimed big men of the past decades before Ewing. And man, was Ewingʼs jumpshot a thing of beauty! I loved watching him pull that off from the high post and even the 3-pt. line. His dribbling moves and his low post also were to be reckoned with. He really defined the 'Big Man' that revolutionized the versatility of what they can be. Thank you, Mr. Patrick Ewing. You were truly one of the greatest to ever play the game of Basketball. All Ewing needed was a partner I mean he got the likes of Oakley with his impressive 9 ppg career pts yet he's in interviews saying Ewing was the problem lol
@FlightNine5 жыл бұрын
Ewing was a classy leader who worked hard and played with his heart, making him a true competitor. Carmelo was only a scorer and wanted money and fame. Ewing will always be the better Knick!
@philcarreon45434 жыл бұрын
Ewing scored, blocked shots, rebounded. Carmelo was only interested in shooting the ball, a lot

EWING IS NEW YORK KNICKS!!!! This man represents everything New York. the ups and downs. The city in itself with the whole love/hate back and forth and when it all comes down to it....In the end it will always be love for this guy who bled orange and blue!!!

Travel on the catch gather to dribble, travel again after a multiple step spin move. There's a reason Reggie wanted to hit every critical winner he ever had in New York and it wasn't just Spike Lee.

He was underlooked, because of Hakeem and MJ’s dominance of the 90s, arguably a top 5 player throughout the 90s
