Kaner seems like he likes Todd’s coaching style. The group seems so receptive to the messaging. It’s so great to see the team be competitive, and actually possess the puck. They battled hard tonight, and showtime finished the job. Go Wings. I’d like to give a shoutout to Seider for taking that pass from Kaner, and drawing the OT PP. Great look and effort there.

Coach said in post game he was honored to be coaching Patrick Kane. In a past interview he said not only can the players learn from him but the coaches can as well. He goes about his business quietly and the team follows. Wings have a hall of fame player on their team, let him show you why. LaLonde treated him like any other skater.

Johansen was fantastic last night, if you actually paid attention, he bodied tkachuk several times down low and drew two penalties from him, to play as well as he did as young as he is after being sat too often by lalonde is very impressive, and quite honestly they outplayed Ottawa 3 out of 4 periods, the 2 goals Ottawa scored were flukey, yes it was fairly even in shots, but the wings have consistently outplayed every team then last 5, mclellen is playing the young players in crucial situations, and the team is thriving. All the things lalonde wasn't doing from a roster move situation pre and in game that anyone with common sense could see they should've been doing, mclellen is doing, and this team is on pace to make that last wild card spot. I'm telling you right now, baring major injuries, this team is gonna make the playoffs, mark my words. I did not think this was gonna happen at any point this year not even to start the season, this coaching move is no different than what florida did when they hired Maurice, anybody who disagrees can come back to this comment and suck it in 3 months.

Happy b-day Brian. I remember turning 29 and thinking this is the perfect age! Another fine podcast boys, always informative. That was a perfect Patty Kane day, we scored our Patrick Kane bobble head figures and he scored the O.T. winner, just awesome! We were so happy to see all the Sens fans go home sad. The second best part of that game was scoring the pp goal with Brady Thuchuck in the box for ripping Simon Edvinson's helmet off.

Kane wasn’t producing bc of style of play and system that was deployed. The last few LaLonde games, you could see LaLonde allowing for more offense…putting 88 with better line mates…and production started. This entire team could’ve been playing like this the whole season. Old coaching staff overreacted to the defense lapses from last season and they destroyed things the first half of this season.
@pjpredhomme769915 күн бұрын
It was obvious from the first week of the season - and you could see it in the players - they knew the system they were being expected to play did not work - I am not that smart and it was so obvious - I still can not believe Yzerman took so long to act
@paulwt978313 күн бұрын
this pretty much covers it, except it leaves out another factor which is Lalonde being a nepotist. Kane isn't his guy and he always seemed to consider him a liability or irrelevant, and Derek was the biggest Raymond fan ever. this resulted in the horrific lineup error of Kane not being w Cat most of the year. Derek's failure to try Copp as the center for Cat and Kane till his last 5 games here is also an all time error that i am sure he regrets now. you are right - Kane and that line started producing immediately together. think of all the time Lalonde wasted having Kane/Cat w Compher, esp last season. if he plays them w Copp this team makes the playoffs last year.

Lalonde micromanaged the team to be "mechanical", he didn't want actual results on W-L columns, he was worried about the processes being followed. TM, told the guys to just play hockey! 9/10 times when a boss let's the workers work, there will be positive output in production! It’s not just the fact that Todd’s coaching style seems to work well for the wings, or at least better than Lalonde’s style. The fact that the coach was replaced in general has had a huge impact on the team too, as it does with most teams. When you’re out there playing how they were playing aka just going through the motions, and then suddenly as a result of how you and the boys have been playing, a man gets fired, his family might have to move, and his reputation could take a hit -all because the boys were not working hard enough, it’s usually enough to wake the team up and get them motivated to work hard again. It gets real when people start losing their jobs and no one wants to be responsible for that. So that’s why coaching changes usually wake a team right up, as it’s done here, regardless of the coach’s skill. If a new coach can wake a team up AND his skill/style really fits with the team, it’s the best of both worlds.
@pjpredhomme769915 күн бұрын
You are blowing by the plain fact that whatever the system was that Lalonde was insisting on - it did not work - and the players knew it did not work . The PK was wedge and roamer - they were using - and it was obviously not working at a record rate - Mclellan changed to a diamond - and the same players are being successful - yeah there is probably a psychological bump to a fresh set of eyes - but that undermines that what they were doing did not work over and over and over again . Watching some of those games in October / November was soul sucking

So proud of all of our sports teams!.. but I do know one thing, as confident as I was about getting rid of Newsy because he was part of the problem holding this team back, I'm equally as confident in saying you must trade Vladimir Tarasenko.. I personally had high hopes for him and thought he was going to add a spark but this is multiple games where I didn't even know he was playing on the team until I saw highlights later of him on the bench or you have to check the box score.. Like I literally didn't hear his name called in this game.. this pathetic on his part, and I know I'm not the only one that noticed this..

Yeah I could not believe he was not sent packing after that horrible California swing middle of November - that is still baffling . I have heard many times that Lalonde is very knowledgeable and the way he would break down and summarize a game after it was played - lead me to believe that he has a very advanced way of thinking the game - but whatever it he was attempting to get this team to do - it was Not working - or this team could not accomplish it - and they knew it - he could not adjust . Mclellan is a lot like Babcock but without the ego baggage - so you know the team will be fundamentally sound , always well prepared for the game they are playing - those are pretty good . What is Most important to me - is the good young talent that we have - like Seider , Raymond , Edvinsson and Kasper - I think were stagnating - under Lalonde - especially Seider - they were just rolling him out - 25 minutes a night - get er done - he is still a young player and needs to be developed to reach his full potential I do not think they were doing that and that is criminal

Longer distance for the change. Wonder if teams start applying more of a dump in and forecheck hard approach in the second. Might hem our guys in more. Or maybe guys aren’t as free or confident in our passes out of the zone knowing a mistake makes guys hopping off the bench and getting in the play take longer.
