Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane spoke to the media for the first time since signing with the Red Wings on Tuesday. One of the things he talked about was why he decided to join Detroit amid the rumors he was looking at several teams following hip surgery. "They are really building something that's going to have a lot of success, so I'd like to be part of that," Kane said.

I got excited by his confidence on TNT's interview. He basically said, "I know I'll be better than I was with the Rangers." He said it with calm conviction, as if it were a complete no-brainer. He might not have been classic Kane with the Rangers, but he still scored 18 points in 26 games. If he produces at .7 points per game with us, then it's a win. Everything above that would be gravy.

For sure. Listen, it was great to see him in our sweater even if it was short lived. It was a rumor that was months in the making and I think we all knew we were getting him not quite at 100%. Or even close to that. But even still, he played well. Like anyone else, there’s a process of adapting to a new environment. But overall, Kane played well for the Rangers. And as banged up as he was, he played well in the playoffs too. His Game 2 in NJ was fantastic. I hope he continues to play well and recover well, always been a big Showtime fan. Wish him well in Detroit.

Absolutely Hated Chelios when he was a Hawk…..Then absolutely loved him when came to Motown. Never disliked Kane…and expect to be a huge fan of his now that he’s here. Detroit fans will take him in as their own. Hope he feels the love and appreciates Detroit for the hockey Mecca that it is…no matter what…..slows start and/or frustrations getting back in the groove. Detroit loves a hard working stoic.

Same here - hated Chelios until he joined the wings then loved him. The only thing I hated about Kane is what he would do to the scoreboard against the wings. Excited to see him on the team and hope he still has enough left in the tank to make a big impact.

I’m wearing my Red Wings Chelios jersey right now lol. I’ll never forget that trade. Chelly famously said “I would never play for Detroit.” 5yrs later he waived his NTC.
