Patrick Kane's Emotional Post-Game Interview

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane took the ice with a heavy heart.
Shortly before puck drop, Kane was informed that his grandfather, with whom he was very close, had died.
Though hockey was far from the only thing on Kane's mind entering the matchup with the Los Angeles Kings, the Team USA star proceeded to have one of his best games of the season. Kane beat Kings goalie Jonathan Quick for a power-play goal just 1:02 into the first period, and he later added another goal and an assist in a 5-3 Blackhawks win.

My favorite part is when they ask him a hockey question to give him a chance to calm down, and you see how hockey can play such a huge part in helping someone heal from something like that.

He knew right before the game that his grandpa had passed away. And the reporters ask you if they can ask a couple questions and have to get players permission before being interviewed. So as sad as this is, and I agree it's a little bit sick that he's surrounded by cameras and reporters at a time like that but they had his permission to do it.

@@Popes_Dopes what is it with people and money. It’s like they think if you get enough money, tragedy doesn’t not exist to you. So what if you lost a loved one, you still have money. Like how do those two things even remotely go together. I see comments like this on hockey players way too much. Which is ridiculous obviously, but also hockey players make the least money, in major sports. The money they make over their entire deal of like eight years, is one year for nba, soccer mlb players. Like of all people to judge for being rich, very few are. Kane, is rightfully so. He in an innovator of a certain style, he’s always been one of the smaller guys coming in, and he’s achieved so much in the sport.the best thing is watching him with Panarin where he said that’s what the game should be about. Like just having fun being creative and being in sync with your teammate.now it’s awesome watching his chemistry with Debrincat. He is well paid because he is completely one of a kind.

Canucks fan, btw I've gotta say you have my sympathy for how things have gone recently. A while back it looked like your team was on its way to winning a Cup soon, and nothing become of it yet. You just lost Kesler, who was my favorite player on your team (I can still love players on a rival team, for instance I'm still fond of Chris Higgins). But hey, at least their not the Oilers. The Oilers have had three first-overall picks in recent years and have had nothing to show for it. The Oilers, once a dynasty, now can't even win despite all the talent on their team (the highlights of which include such young players as Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins). But hey, I can totally sympathize with teams going through rough patches, after all I am a lifelong Hawks fan, and not only that but I am also a lifelong Cubs fan.

Leezy1399 I was talking to a Canucks fan, FIVE MONTHS after Kane lost his grandfather, I don't know WTF your problem is with that almost half-a-year after I posted that comment. I love and respect Kane, I've met the man. I've been a lifetime Blackhawks fan. My sibling was in a commercial with Kane where he played for a youth scrimmage squad with Kane against Toews. For goodness sake, don't get so offended, if your not interested in the conversation ignore it. It wasn't like I was mocking Patrick for being upset or anything. My comment was not insensitive towards him at all, it was not even about him. It's not like I started an argument about Christina Aguilera or Beyonce, who's the better singer on a video about 9/11. I would understand you disliking that level of irrelevancy, but I was just talking hockey on a hockey video. You wouldn't get upset if I talked about other players or teams on most other hockey videos, so don't get upset here.

Why bring it up even that was personal and had nothing to do with reporting on hockey. I feel like if they want to discuss those things they will and shouldn't be prompted to do so. That was like getting hit by a freight train and completely unexpectedly. If it were me, I would have just asked if there were any hockey related questions you would like to ask me. I don't discuss my personal matters and affairs with people I don't know and he was just made to do that on National television for the World to witness. Why are people so entitled. Granted, maybe he did need to talk about it and nobody had asked him but it should have been done in private. At least that's what I would have preferred

Your an incredible player and this must be so tough. Even though I'm not a US fan good luck in Sochi. I hope you at least get a medal you deserve it.

He is my favorite player. Considering Kane is my favorite, this is sad and emotional. Important to get the 5-3 win though.
