My Vauxhall Cavalier Coupe GLS was about 10 years old when I got it, and it still went like a speeding bullet. Great car. Never let me down.

The first Cavaliers were pretty good for their time when they came out.

The Mk1 Cavaliers lived on into the the next generation in the form of the Manta, some of which had the new generation Isuzu designed engines.

Funny how Vauxhall got Patrick MacNee as their spokesman as he only recently drove British Leyland products on The New Avengers!

Intriguing approach having a Ford Transit in the background, particularly when Vauxhall had an equivalent - the mighty Bedford CF!
@anthonyperkins75566 жыл бұрын
joh2 The Ford Transit outsold the Bedford CF and more operators and businesses went for it, which was a shame because the Bedfords were just as capable just as decent and made quite a case for itself as dependable business transport. But Bedford never updated their truck designs which was the nail in the coffin for the beleaguered company and this also forced many vehicle operators to look at other brands, and GM brought to an end van and truck manufacture in 1986 closing the Dunstable factory and from then on were badge engineered Vauxhall vans with Bedford plastered on them.

Have owned three Mrk 1 Cavaliers, all of them were great. I had a coupe - the red one Patrick is driving in this ad - but mine was jade green.... that old car just kept going and going, nomatter what I threw at it. It finally went to car heaven because of corrosion, but it was 20 years old by then. In 7 years it never failed me. Would love to have another one.

I had a brand new, red Cavalier, company car & it looked the biz! It went like a bullet & never gave me a problem. McNee is at Luton Hoo, Luton Airport & Vauxhall UK HQ in Osborne Road, Luton. Millbrook proving ground still going strong today!

I love seventies Vauxhalls, especially the mk1 Cavalier. It's a shame the old cars end up scrapped just because of rust. New cars don't appeal to me.

Yes, you're right. This was remarked on by Brian Clements in the DVD set of "The Professionals". Seems that BL never could get the same car to the set on consecutive days, so the shoot was always held up. To add insult to injury, when Patrick MacNee showed up at the Motor Show stand, nobody would let him on board and he went on to get complimentary champagne at the Mercedes-Benx stand instead.

Remember that TV stars in those days didn't make much money, especially in Britain and Europe. The rare few in Hollywood with life experience, good lawyers, did pretty good BUT the studios STILL tried to rip them off. James Garner had to sue for "Maverick" and won. No residuals in those days to the stars, only the Producers. No wonder Patrick had to get side jobs. Good for him. No wonder Diane bailed. It wasn't worth it.
@unowen-nh9ov2 жыл бұрын
Diana bailed to star in Bond picture, like Honor before her. Macnee starred in the series for over a decade & could afford to retire to California.

Both the Chevette and Cavalier were sold in America, too. In fact the Cavalier (j-car) was sold as a Chevy, Olds, Buick, Pontiac and.... Cadillac! People were not impressed. What would you rather have? A 3-series? Or one of these pieces of crap?

I had a '92 Cavalier and it was a decent if rather pedestrian car. dunno about that model - but a lot of autos of the decade were boxy odd looking ducks.
