The way they are going banning petrol & diesel new sales from 2030 or 35 whatever it is this week…will they ban classic / older cars from roads entirely at some point..i wouldn’t put it past them i don’t think it’s a zero percent possibility.

Sage advice from Patrick and Tom and a beautiful range of cars as well....those who think these issues only apply to "millionaires" are wrong. It will stagger some just how valuable their final salary pension is worth, particularly those who have accrued them in the public sector and the larger employers who formerly operated these schemes. Enjoy the fruits of your long hard labour while you can and be sensible with your decisions. Your beneficiaries will thank you........wouldn't you prefer that outcome rather than HMRC or the government of the day taking your money and deciding how to spend it!!!!!! Tom is yes a businessman but he care about the decisions his customers take. Patrick is a sensible and knowledgeable guy who gives us all food for thought.

I agree that Labour have got off to a start with Conservative level clumsiness. National debt doubled as a result of 14 years poor management of public assets, the brexit fiasco and covid frauds (PPE procurement as well as unchecked subsidies). This debt can no longer be serviced by selling off the family silver (GB no longer has any to sell...). The best solutions available now are to levy NI on unearned income (BTL etc) and raise CGT on frivolous assets (30% would be more realistic). The positives would be to quietly take the bubble out of the classic car market. Why even worry about CGT when the cars are overpriced by probably 3 times the CGT rate ! In addition, the top end of the market is simply used to launder money by career criminals / hedge funders. These guys never even use the cars...

Brexit has left GB with lack of fiscal resources (-40-60 Bn a year) and declining growth despite an increaseing population (nearly a million a year as a result of brexit). The Cons have no workable policies. UKIP/Reform are tarred with the brexit mess and immigration. The Lib Dems are wisely keeping a low profile. Brexiters need to wake up to what they voted for: this may take 10 years for them to understand or leave feet first.

From the US: Interesting contrast in our tax laws / no cap gains tax on "passenger cars" e.g. even on a 250 GTO. He obviously has a lot of worthless F1 cars he's pushing ... "this one finished 3rd at Donnington" BFD! vs a 250 GTO, for instance.

It's just plain wrong that racing cars will be worth more than road cars in the future, as you guys pointed out, you pay CGT on racing cars and not on passenger.......simples...

The problem with cars as a ‘so called’ investment is that it relies entirely on The Greater Fool Theory; ie the delusion that you will one day be able to find a greater fool than you who will pay more than you did.

As someone who is 63 with a substantial sum in a private pension (as yet untouched) there is no easy way of getting this money out. Yes you can take 25% tax free lump sum and then pay higher rate of tax on the remaining drawings assuming you wanted to take out a lot of your pot to go and buy a classic car! Is there an easier solution?

Yes, leave the country. I bought bitcoin, moved to Dubai and cashed out some of it here CGT free. Couldn't really care less what HMRC thinks about it.
