ops! you are absolutely correct! it should be just play ole 2y(dy/dx)! thanks for pointing out the mistake! sometimes i can not talk and do math at the same time. : ) thanks also for the kind words. glad the videos help, even if they are not always correct!

Why does the y^2 become 2y^2 dy/dx when you find the derivative. Shouldn't it be 2y dy/dx only?

You can also think of it like this: the only difference between implicit and explicit is that the explicit equations have the "y" alone on one side of the equal mark, while the implicit don't. when you for example take the derivative of : y= 2x+x^2 you get y'=2+2x notice that the " y " turns into " y' " (y prime). this is because you take the derivative of both sides, and that's exactly what you do in implicit equations. y' = dy/dx as he explains in the first example of this video

At 1:42, do you have to distribute cos(xy^2) to what is in the brackets? Does the expression in the brackets also behave as an "input" like (xy^2)? Is xy^ an input? Couldn't you just divide 1 by cos(xy^2) to isolate what is in the brackets?
