I just want to congratulate Patrick, I haven’t seen anyone doing such good job transferring knowledge in Tennis. Everything is so clear, with the right words, the right progression and tactics always in mind, this way juniors get the correct mind set while improving their shots, keep up the excellent job your doing!

Such a great coaching approach. You can hardly notice because its done so naturally. This player has just been programmed to hit better forehands just in 5 min by showing and asking the student questions. So great to see a Master at work. Bravo!!

Sometimes teaching is not easy. Even when you explain well and demo well, the student still can't do it right away. Maybe the assistant coach can also help the student by showing him video of his play so the student can see himself when he's striking the the ball correctly and when not. I love Coach M's constant patience and encouragement. He's never, ever negative.

Interesting video. I think the biggest impact was an introduction of a pause before his acceleration. He set up his balance and positioning with his feet to then pause and load into the stroke. The power for me came from the pause so he could focus on his actual contact and to be balanced ....

Patrick’s instructional videos are the best out there. I’m 51 years old & have been playing tennis on & off sone I was 10. Until this summer I hadn’t picked up a racket in 15 years. My game has improved 1000% percent & people are amazed at how quickly I got my game up to tournament level. I pretty much only watch his videos. Great work Patrick 👏

Very good explained! I will try it. :-) I get for my backhand easy power because of my bodyweight into the ball around 120km/h. On my forehand however below 90 km/h most of the time. That’s because I’m unbalanced there and mostly leaning on my right foot strangely enough… Thanks for this video! 👍

Great lesson Patrick. I would like to hear more from you on the body weight transfer and the strength needed on the front leg. You started to go into it which I believe is very helpful to this young man as well as many others. I have similar issue with some of the transfer of weight. I think the step through does help quite a bit as well it’s a good drill

Unlikely for this comment to be seen but I would very much enjoy a lesson with a student who over-rotates on the forehand where the elbow somewhat sticks out behind the player and ends up swinging across your body as they are trying to get more power if you know what I mean. This results in an inability to swing upwards but more flat and less consistency. I have this problem and would like to make my preparation more compact but I don't know how.

The weight transfer concept is important but the WAY to think about it is PUSHING off with the BACK foot, not simply "put your weight on the front foot"- a key difference in swing thought in my opinion! As well, the complete KINETIC CHAIN involves the BENDING of the knees and essentially 1) pushing off the back foot while 2) standing "up" or rising from the knee bend which started at the beginning of the swing. JUST LIKE THE SERVE, the speed STARTS with the feet, pushing off the back foot, obtaining the proper kinetic chain RESULTING in the racquet speed. Without attempting to perfect the kinetic chain, just a focus on racquet speed misses 90% of the proper way to get there!

very helpful! But I am confused about one thing. If he should put his weight on the front leg before he hits the ball, how does weight transfer actually happen and help to generate the power? I was told that usually the weight should be on the back leg and when when we hit the body, the weight shift to the front leg.
@narayanansubramanian49113 жыл бұрын
That's because he is balancing the transferring of weight when he moves his leg
@FollowFunk3 жыл бұрын
The student had too much weight on his back leg, which made him too off balance to initiate the weight transfer in time. You need to have some weight already on the front leg so that you can quickly and easily push the rest of your weight on to that front foot when it comes time to swing. Yes, it is a weight transfer, but at contact, your body weight is already completely on that front foot. The reason why it still adds power despite all the weight already being on the front foot at contact, is because the momentum of the transfer is continued by either rotating around on that front foot (as he explains here 0:29), or by doing a hop-step towards the net.
@dominiclondesborough32223 жыл бұрын
Kinetic chain of energy. Step into ball (or transfer weight to front leg) a split second before contact with the ball. This creates more power and spin.
@FollowFunk3 жыл бұрын
@@dominiclondesborough3222 oh good point! I forgot the energy from the weight transfer translates to more energy into your arm with a proper kinetic chain.
@Better_Call_Raul2 жыл бұрын
Let's suppose a player is hitting with a fully open stance. Fully open, not semi open stance. Does it work the same way? Almost All the weight is on the right foot as you begin the forward swing. But take care to have the left foot planted, so that weight can be transferred. At contact, the weight will be almost all on the front foot.

Nadal, Federer and many other ATP and WTA players pivot back on so many of their forehands and lift their non dominant leg during the stroke (left for Federer and right for Rafa), exactly the same way he was instructed not to do... I don't understand why this difference between open stance and closed stance forehand is never explained in these videos.
@wiinko162 жыл бұрын
My guess is that they sit more back ( low center of gravity leaning and loading on back foot) more than they have use of lifting forwardleg. Also that their shoulder remains in front of hip. Also that it is shot they are foreced to defend when they are pushed back. Does it make sense?

Good content so far. But this time, the quality overall os very poor vs your 1min videos.a 9min video needs more preparation, story telling, etc... You kept saying and saying the same things all the time till it becomes very confusing. Work also on your articulations and the messages you want to pass in each sequence. The little kid is for sure a talent, but somehow he doesn't listen much or doesn't understand what you try to explain. So both side here need an improvement. We still love your Content. Video captures could also be a bit better. Chees. Mwrci
