Patrick, you constantly make me rethink my ideas and perhaps look at things out of the box. I would have never thought that just using the adhesive alone would create such a strong bond. Many thanks for showing us the backstory and all added information you share with us on your projects. 👍👍

The unintended use thing is the way to win in life if I'm honest. Stupid marketing people don't price according to cost of manufacturer, it's always focus grouped for the particular user market. People seem to be just getting dumber so they expect a price far higher than the actual cost+ price would be, so of course marketing prices accordingly. If you find close enough materials that are priced for a more general commoditized market you pay a fraction for same or close enough. Just another example of how using your brain can make you money. Well done.

Excellent representation of why they cost what they cost. Cost of materials, cost of equipment to build it, and then the most important, how many hours involved in building it. How much is each hour of your free time worth. And as we all know (or should) free time isn’t “free”. It is nice, the quality and your skill, impeccable.

Amazing build! Very well done and I really appreciate the in-depth video. I'll definitely be making one of these after I build my teardrop camper. I think I'll try to add an additional flap of material over the bracket so it doesn't leak as much there. I also wonder if the arms could have been more of a triangular design (widest at the bracket) instead of rectangular to help prevent the arms from sagging a bit more and also help with water shed.

For future use and or people reading, you might want to folder over inside your flap material so it not only hides your "CUT" edge of the material but it also locks in the thread and prevent the material from unravelling.... I'm not expert but grew up with a mother who sewed a lot. Now my wife and kids don't make fun of that skill I learned when they need me to stitch something for them.

I believe its called a "flat felled seam". Makes for a very clean and finished seam.

Hi, is the material you use for the new cover the same as the pergola fly material? I have watched a lot of videos to diy my 270 awning and yours is by far the best, thanks for share and congratulations!

have you considered using a SKI-BAG/SNOWBOARD-BAG as your awning-bag ? (if u don't know its for transporting your skis oder snowboard safely, and it looks like it should fit )

Hey man I'm trying to figure out how to get my Toyota Prius to transform into a Blue Police Call Box. If not possible maybe we can transform into a shed or something else. I just need to be able to park and transform so I can stealth camp anywhere in plain sight. Can anybody help me figure out how to do that? What you're doing here is a pretty good start.

Did you use polyester thread? What size thread? Would you buy this sewing machine again or is there something better for tgis kind of work? What are the downsides to this sewing machine? Thanks!
@PatrickRemington
@PatrickRemington Жыл бұрын
Yes, I used Coats and Clark outdoor 100% polyester thread. It’s 12weight needs a 16-18 needle. I don’t have a whole lot of time on this machine but I do like it. If I had an unlimited budget, I would buy one from Sailrite

Super important to make sure that you choose a UV resistant thread, polyester is best, cotton is not great for this application. Use heat to sever the threads and seal them so they do not fray, I would also suggest a smear of a seam sealant on threads as well so that water does not wick through the thread holes. One last suggestion is to 'hot cut' the fabric. Use an old soldering iron with a thin blade tip, or a dedicated hot cutting tool, this will seal the fabric from fraying and hem is not necessary as much (this would be great for the hinge hole. Looks great!

No, I can't. Especially with the Hatch ladder. But I don't know an awning that can either. Thankfully the 4runners back window rolls down
