The only difference between a ll16 and a ll16d is that the ll16d just comes with a hard shell? Correct me if I’m wrong

@@LordFarquaad_II the deluxe version has a binding around the edge of the guitar, which many believe gives it a tad more responsiveness

I totally agree about the sustain - when I got mine I joked about it being a disadvantage - even the wrong notes last forever! A world class instrument , no question.

Really like yamahas they are built very well and can stand up to humidity changes ,2 years ago I bought a 1982 Yamaha FG 300M ,M stands for mahogany back and sides ofcourse ,all I did to it was put bone nut and saddle and pins and its very loud ,not only high strings but lower as well just love them now

Only thing I don’t like about it is the gold pegs etc it’s just a personal preference and mine is Crome. But the sound is second to none for the money I agree 👌🏻 I’m only beginning my journey and couldn’t afford it but did have the opportunity to play in store. I ended up with a Yamaha fgx720sca secondhand and I love depth it presents from its aged qualities. I’ve definitely become accustomed to the Yamaha neck verse over guitars I’ve tried to play. Just can’t go past them I don’t reckon. Love the your passion and music mate 👍🏻

Change out the pastic pins and saddle with Tusk and it becomes a completely different sounding insturment. More sustain, harmonics, and projection. You will not regret the change and not expensive. Change the nut and it balances the sound a bit more and takes about 30 minutes to fit by sanding. At least change the pins as this made the biggest difference, then saddle, then nut all for about $50 US.

I'm so torn between the l series and the a series. Yamaha is really hitting it out of park with high quality instruments and like working class folk prices. Your playing is amazing! I'm just starting to get into bluegrass, something about it is so calming and wholesome to the soul.

A for versatility, richness of tone/deeper bass, cutaway & neck-feel. L for dollar value/saving $500 or more, crystal-clear mids, & super-convenient noiseless pickup. But the neck on the L16s is pretty beefy, so if you like an easier neck I'd go A. That said, the L neck is more stable and toneful. If a higher-end L (26 and up) is w/in budget, those necks are slimmer so that won't be an issue and will of course blow the A (and most other guitars) away in all other respects too; they're just a bit more mid-range/clear instead of warm or growly, so ya need warm or bassy strings. The L's make incredibly loud & crystal harmonics, beautiful. I went LL16, but would've also kept the A5R if the SRT2 preamp didn't have so much signal noise. It's an issue on all guitars with that system, plug in with headphones to hear for yourself. L16 pickups are absolutely silent. You will not be disappointed with either- only questions are how much do you need a cut-away, how badly does the SRT2 noise bug ya, what size neck do you pref, and do you want more bassy or crystal? Cheers 👍

A series sucks. Cramped string spacing, and the e's slip off the side pretty easily. The one he's playing here is outstanding, as good as you'll ever see at the price point.

Sounds great Patrik! I had a beautiful FG2000 for a long time, I loved it, sounded fantastic, but not really useful for Bluegrass. Now I sold it and bought a used LL36. My son Ralph, an amazing Bluegrass flatpicker, banjo and mandolin player as well, never liked any Yamaha for Bluegrass. He agreed that the good ones were excellent guitars, but after playing my LL36, he even admitted that it could be a good Bluegrass guitar! Did not expect that from him.... But I agree, I love my LL! (by the way, my wife had a beautiful LL500, but sold it, also not for Bluegrass, she plays a Martin M36 now, very versatile guitar, for any kind of music, even Bluegrass I think).

Been using an LL6 for a few years now which is the laminated rosewood version of the LL16, and the sustain was what pulled me in. I live in Nova Scotia so I needed something that would hold up to temp and humidity changes better than a solid body so at $800 I dove right in. Soon after found a broken-in 2004 model with a 3 ply neck rather than 5 which is even better.

Fellow Nova Scotian, been considering switching up to one of these as well. Played one at my old job and it was the last one in the province for sale for a while haha Hard to find them new locally too. Stuck between one of these or going for a recording king. Just can’t justify the ridiculous price of a good Martin these days .

@@NickBishop Recording King is also a tremendous choice but alllllways go for rosewood. I find mahogany to be too deadening of the sound but I had an original RK Songstress w/ mahogany I had a lend of for a few days that sounded phenomenal. Rosewood just sings in all the right places

Please tell me if you record LL16 sound in the sound card line, there is no passive pickup and equalizer in the guitar, ie nothing can be changed, only on PC or mixer, does it work well, is it better fgx830 c with active pickup?
