Just because you were a great player does NOT mean you’re automatically going to be a good coach. In fact it’s usually the opposite. Mike Vrabel (showed to be a great HC who got passed over) Ron Rivera (played in and won a SB and took a team to the SB as HC) and Mike Ditka (obviously HoF’er in both professions) are among the exceptions not the rule. Once you lose control of the team it’s gone for good. You can’t have the inmates run the prison, you can’t have the employees run the executive boardroom and you can’t let the players run the team. That logic is ridiculous to think that would work at all…they can’t police themselves they are essentially kids with millions of dollars. There’s going to be a lot more Ruggs and Rice situations if you let the players govern themselves. It’s not if it’s going to be a disaster…it’s GOING to be a disaster. We just have to sit back and see how bad it will get. DEI or not, if Mayo has a poor first season as HC and starts his second season just as bad he’s gone. He is almost certainly in over his head…more qualified candidates were IMMEDIATELY passed over in favor of Mayo. I have a list of 6 other guys ahead of mayo just off the top of my head. Bruschi, Vrabel, Rodney all those guys stated in the past Bill was the coach but the veteran players would always tell Bill (Bru, McGinest especially) "they got this" referring to handling things with the players. That's exactly what the recent Patriots teams have been missing. TEAM LEADERS, the out spoken players who were dawgs. Loved McCourty, Hightower and Slater but they are a far cry from McGinest, Bruschi, Harrison and Brady...add Vrabel, Ty Law also.

As a Vol fan. I watched Joe Milton. He can throw the ball a mile & he missed many open throws by a mile.. He struggles to read basic coverages. His accuracy is terrible. He throws to random Wrs instead of reading through his progressions. He struggles against any pressure. I dont think the Nfl can teach accuracy. The vols run 25/ 30 wideout screens a game. He threw the ball behind the line of scrimmage often & would miss open Wideouts on screen plays all the time.

All NE fans know has been winning until recently and 90% of them actually think turning the Patriots around is a simple process. I hate DEI bullshit as much as every sane person and I knew when Mayo stayed in NE years back that Kraft wanted him as his future "Black" HC (which is the dumbest, most racist title I've ever heard). Yet, as a older fan who's been there through the lean years going back to the 80s, I'm willing to wait and see if Wolf can rebuild the team, and see if Mayo can learn FAST what it means to be a HC in the NFL. Kraft really likes his new Black HC, so I'm assuming Mayo is going to get some leeway. Hopefully he'll figure out that DEI has no place in any business. If not, I'm sure we'll get a more qualified HC in about 4yrs.

I don't agree with this guy really. I know Michigan is college football but the thing that helped build great culture there was the players being leaders and playing for eachother as brothers. I think player lead teams are the teams that hold one another accountable and it's not like it's 100% just players doing it all. It's more of a metaphor for comradery and discipline . I don't think it's a bad thing for NFL coaches to treat the players like professionals and not treat them like their babysitters

For those into video games, you may be familiar with the boss of Valve, Gabe Newell. Even though he's the boss, he lets his employees run the company basically. Result - the popular story-action game _Half-Life_ will _never_ get finished, leaving fans with a cliffhanger that will never be resolved/continued. I'm all for benevolent bosses - hard core mean bosses are the worst, but like anything else, Extremes are bad on both ends of anything.
