It's encouraging to see a whole new generation learning about true musical genius. You're watching a master while the rest of the younger generation is having their brains numbed by Katie Perry.

Stevie Ray didn't need to sell his soul to the Devil to learn to play like that. All he had to do was steal his older brother Jimmy's guitar when he (Stevie) was three years old. I love it when reactors are left giggling in hysterical disbelief when SRV plays behind his back.

Stevie used 13 gauge guitar strings. That was like playing with cables. The strength it took to bend those strings was incredible. Stevie was a guitar savant. He would play for hours on end without taking any breaks. No player was more one with their ax than Stevie was. He channeled music through his body. The man is a legend.

Loved watching your reaction.. I saw Stevie 4 times live.. 1st Time Gregg Allman opened for him in 1987 just outside LA at a county fairground. I stood right underneath him. It was a hot August night. The 4th song was “Voodoo Chile”. By the time he got have way through his sweat was dripping off in front of us. The 2nd time was at “The Greek” with BB King, 3rd with BB at The Greek again, last time Pacific Amphitheater, with BB and Joe Cocker. Every show was a must see. He was the reason I started playing guitar(at 27). I was so devastated when he died I couldn’t listen to his music for a long time. Even now when I see videos of him I still cry. “Lenny” was his first wife. He wrote that song for her while sitting on her bed. Also Stevie’s influence has passed through to my 22 year old son who plays guitar and shreds in the mold of Stevie. He was the best in my opinion... and I’ve seen em all except Hendrix.. there’s no one.. and never will be anyone like SRV...

Went to University of Texas in the early 80's and we new him as Little Stevie (we new his older brother Jimmy more with Fabulous Thunderbirds), but we knew he was a much better guitarist. Saw him at Padre Island in 82 before he hit it big, we appreciated what a great guitarist he was and it was cool to see when he started to get his props as a great guitarist. We even didn't appreciate how great he was until he passed and we realized we'd never get to see his great live shows again. GOAT.

One of a kind. He used his own mix of 13 gauge strings with high action on most of his guitars. He also used to have to superglue his fingertips back on. And he was Albert Kings godson.

Thank you for reacting to the GREAT Stevie Ray Vaughan. I’ve been listening to his music since i first saw him on a show called “Night Flight” on the USA network back in the mid-‘80’s. I was just a teenager back then and I reacted pretty much the same as you did. The man was INCREDIBLE. STILL can’t get enough of his music after all these years.

Stevie has been his idol since about the age of 5. Living in Texas, well Stevie is just a part of your heart. Loving aviation, my Dad was a pilot, I still am furious at the helicopter pilot that should have never been flying.

I followed you onto SRV's Voodoo Child and stand by my earlier comments. I feel you are genuine, your evaluation is honest. Too, when you pause to add input you keep short and stay on point. Keeping it real Jimi Hendrix could not only play behind his back, he could also pick that ax using his teeth. At the Monterey Pop Festive in '66 he lit his guitar on fire and played on. Keep up the good work, it's a gift.

Jimmy Hendrix played guitar behind his back, between his legs, on his shoulder, on his head, with one hand, etc. Watch Hendrix's videos. Stevie Ray was a living incarnation of Hendrix. Jimmy and Stevie Ray were the "Masters" of the guitar. They didn't play the guitar - they were the guitar! Thanks for this video always great to watch STV in action.

He played most of his career with literally telephone wire for strings!! His low E is virtually unbendable a#13 , he had very large and thick fingers from playing 8 to 10 hour sets and developed such strong hands which allowed him to not just play 1 song but a whole set!!! 15 to 20 almost with out a break!!! amazing!! Thanks

It's great seeing everyone's reaction, that hasn't seen SRV before, when he did his spinorama putting the guitar behind his back. It's amazing and I laugh because it only gets worse. He plays behind his back then casually continues singing. Without seeing it, one would never realize this is happening. It's just another page of SRV's legend.

I think you got it right at the end: It IS a passion. Playing at a caliber of musicianship that extraordinary is the result of a passion. I think it demeans someone to infer, even jokingly, or as an expression of amazement, that they might have acquired such mastery by way of a transaction. Hard work and a passion. I don't believe for a moment that you meant any injury by that earlier statement, but SRV shared so much of his soul with us - i don't think he ever sold any of it to anyone. I enjoyed your video - thanks.

Sometimes this happens. And it is so freaking awesome when it does. Someone locks into something they're really really good at. They are wired up and born for this. It's so rare. And It is so evident when it happens. This Is that right here. Stevie Ray Vaughan is a guitar God for sure. It is extremely special and rare. And more often than not it ends way too quickly.

Sensational..a legend..a singer..a guitar player..an entertainer..a performer..what else is left..oh..and a songwriter I might add..Stevie Ray Vaughan didn't have to write music or a song..He just flat out sang and played the guitar and wherever it went in the soundwaves..so be it...Stevie Ray vaughan conquered what many of us wish we could conquer a little of what he mastered and done....

Stevie played with thick strings in order to get that sound which is unique to SRV. John Mayer once commented that he could play with those strings for about 30 seconds then his hand would cramp up. SRV played entire concerts with those strings and could bend 2-3-4 at a time!
