So happy to see Bob Seger's appeal reach Down Under. I'm from Detroit, just like he is. This song screams Motor City. Was also nominated for a Best Song Oscar, but lost to that song from "Dirty Dancing".

First band I ever seen was Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. They led off the show for BTO. 1974 ever sense I’ve loved they guy. His earlier stuff was much more rocky than his 80s stuff.

Think the movie came out in the mid or late 80s, which is why his voice sounds different compared to Turn the Page. This isn't a bad song, but seems kind of poppy for Bob. I feel that his 70s and early 80s stuff was best. Another Midwestern singer that may be up your alley is John Mellencamp. John's style is like a Springsteen or Seger style, but maybe with as raspy of a voice. Pink Houses and Jack and Diane are worth a look.

Agreed, this has the typical 80's sound. The 70's music was much more real.

This song was originally going to be done by Glen Fry of the Eagles, but he got sick and could not do the vocals, so he suggested his friend and fellow Detroiter Bob give it a go. Bob did a marvelous job too.
@matthewdrake43854 жыл бұрын
Didn’t realize that Bob was asked to write the song for the movie. I realize that the 80’s had distinct sounds in production and using synths more. I always associate Axel F more as the theme for Beverly Hills Cop than Shakedown. But even if this is worst one, it’s still good and catchy.
@jimarmstrong26304 жыл бұрын
Glen Fry, got an early opportunity in the music business thànks to Bob, Fry did the original song for the original Beverly Hills Cop, he was asked to do this song, but was having some health issues, so he tossed it to Bob. It was a huge hit for Bob and got him a whole new audience, that's a good friend.

That's the thing about Seger. His music is like arterial blood... all others branching off like capillaries. It runs deep and quiet, but it's straight from the heart. Powerful and all but unseen on the outside, it's so essential and perfect that all the rest runs right out from it. His music captures the ambiance of every age. Late 60's, early and late 70's, 80's.. you can HEAR those ages in everything he does.

Please you have to listen to "Old Time Rock And Roll". it was probably one of his greatest hits and was my grandmothers favorite song. my grandparents went dancing every saturday night and when they would get home she would have a little buzz still and put on old time rock and roll song on and want us all to get up and dance. she even asked for us to forgo a funeral and play that song and have a drink at her gravesite while dancing to that song. so when the time came thats exactly what we did!!! the song just makes you wanna get up and dance around trust me.

Another soundtrack he worked on around the same time was "Teachers," a Nick Nolte movie memorable because JoBeth Williams walked naked down a school hallway. Anyway, here's a link to Seger's song. "Understanding": kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYrWoWCKi96nldk Best Seger Seger song/video combined was for "Like a Rock," a song that was totally KILLED by being chopped up and played a zillion times on truck commercials. This is a more Poppy song because it was made for a movie I believe in the early 80s TV you need to stick with his 60s 70s songs although he does have some good songs in the 80s as well but his best songs or the late 60s and throughout the 70s!!

This song was actually meant for Glenn Frey as a sequel to The Heat Is On from Beverly Hills Cop I ~ Glenn and Bob were great friends going back to their teens ~ Glenn lost his voice and couldn't record it so he asked Bob to step in and do it ~ As a HUGE Seger fan, this is my least favorite tune as it just isn't his usual style, a little too 80's foot loosey for me ~ Sadly it is his only #1 single.

Love me some Seger, but this isn't one of his best songs. Probably because he was writing for a movie soundtrack instead of writing from his heart making the song sound forced. Plus it is from that 80's period and has that commercial sound, very un-Seger like. Of course this is just my opinion. Anyway if you want to hear more pure Seger try, Beautiful Loser, Hollywood Nights, Katmandu, Night Moves, You'll Accompany Me or one of my favorites Fire Lake.
