This was such an amazing look at how these agencies handle our quilts. It is indeed heartwarming to see the efforts of thousands of quilters putting love into every quilt to wrap an unknown person in a war zone or living as a refugee in warmth and comfort. Thank you for this video and your quilt for Ukraine pattern.

My home Lutheran Church had a quilt making group who made quilts for Lutheran World Relief. They accepted fabric, yarn, old blankets to make the quilts and fill them and tie them. That was the method they used. They also accepted donations to pay for the shipping of the quilts to places all over the world. At that time the Church donating the quilts paid a fee to help with shipping costs. Thank you for sharing this inside look at the ministry. It warms my heart to remember the ladies working together to cut, sew and tie the quilts.
@ajwise2872 жыл бұрын
That is what we do! We take mostly sheets and fabric donations and then use that for the fabric and then buy the filler and stuff. I don't know all the details, just that because when my grandma when to the nursing home, she was going to destroy a bunch of sheets and I made sure it went to our quilts! I don't actually sew the quilts, I just sew the little strings to finish them :)

My elderly mother made literally hundreds of quilt tops for LWR. Her church group makes them with 7x9 inch patches laid out 10x10. Mother cut smaller pieces of fabric into 5x5 inch squares and sewed them together to the proper dimensions. Their quilts were tied with yarn. My mother also joined small scraps of batting into a quilt-sized piece for the group to use. She unstitched the hems from sheets to make them large enough to be used for backing. Nothing went to waste. These quilts can be used to form tents or shelter floors, carry belongings, etc. They are so much more than warm coverings for the body.

Thank you so much for this wonderful post today! Ukraine is very dear to my heart for many reasons, so your projects and support of Ukraine have been so special. The tour of the LWR facility was great! My church, Cooksville Lutheran-ELCA, makes and donates quilts for LWR. I participate by sewing tops. It was so neat to see the process and hear from the volunteers. I want to share this video with the quilters at church. I think they would enjoy this. Finally, when the images of you handing in your quilt for Ukraine and recipients shown on the LWR webpage, came on the screen, emotions welled up in my heart and tears came to my eyes. So much good work being done for people around the world who are in such great need. 💙💛❤️🙏
