We lost power last year and since I couldn’t sew I did scrapbusting for 4 hours. Amazing how much I got. I’m sure in that amount of time the Gemini would get a whole lot more cut.

There's a video that shows how to do it without damaging the parts. It uses a small cutting mat if I remember correctly.

You know I have those dyes and the machine. Dyes have just been sitting in the box. I better take a look at them I guess 😆

Pat, I got my new Gemini today and the recommended combination has a Clear Cutting Plate , Plastic Shim, Magnetic Shim, Die (blade side up) Material to be cut, clear cutting plate on top. It left a big mark on the top clear cutting plate. After watching you again tonight--you have the clear cutting plate on bottom, the metal Shim, the Material to be cut, the die (blade side down) , the plastic Shim, and the Clear cutting plate on top.Rotating and Flipping them between each pass. I will try mine like you show and I know it will work fine. Thanks for showing us the Gemini.

Snap, me also. My top cutting plate bent so bad that it got stuck. When it eventually got through the fabric was only partially cut. I boxed the machine up and was about to send it back, then thought about one last look on the internet. I came across this site and voila! six nicely cut circles and hexis.

so what about batting? Does the machine cut the batting too? You only show cutting the fabric but can it cut the batting? A quilt needs batting, right. and my other question is do the plates and the metal and the plastic thingy come included with the machine?
@PatSloan9 ай бұрын
it does not cut batting. i no longer use this machine. I now use an accuquilt. You can see them at shrsl.com/3vov7

Please help me! Bought new Gemini. Watched yours & prob 4 more videos BEFORE using it. First time thru, with plates & shims & die cuts & blades EXACTLY as instructed - it did nothing, even with just cutting dies onto plain piece of bond paper. Ran thru again adding metal shim, still nothing. Then, paused & reversed - still nothing on piece of bond, but with severe damage to all shims. So, I decided to flip dies over thinking maybe I misunderstood which was "blade side up", even tho I had used side shown in videos. It then cut dies in bond paper, all but one, but with large holes in shims! All of them! Thank goodness Amazon is always there for you & asked if I wanted to try another Gemini machine. It came in today (in one day). I am afraid to even TAKE IT OUT OF THE BOX! NEED HELP! ~ EP

Sherry Clifton .Sherry, I've used Accu and Sizzix only cutting fabrics (not paper). How well does the Gemini work in comparison? How about prices?
@sherryclifton49476 жыл бұрын
GC Durnin I think I like the hard dies from Accu better than the layering of Gemini but that just from watching her demo. As far as pricing, Accuquilt is $$, no idea what the Gemini cost

I just watched this today. I’m wondering if you still use a die cutting machine. Have you upgraded from the Gemini to something more sophisticated? That Gemini looks a little unwieldy

How much for the replacement part of the metal sheet? I can see that the metal sheet will wear out quickly. I like the idea of a cutting machine. Thank you for showing off the Gemini.

How long do the plants last? do you need to replace after afew months?
@PatSloan5 жыл бұрын
Hayden the decided to tape 10 pieces of cardstock together and use that instead of the plastic shim. That lasts a really long time. The metal will twist, but it very usable for a good amount of cutting. If you are a power cutting using it daily for hours at at time, that means more wear. If you use it once a week or once a month for a few things.. it lasts super long. If you need more info emai. me at pat@patsloan.com

I think your question is about the plates. If not, just regard. If so, I have been using my Crafters Companion and found my cover plate was warping badly. I turned my plates each time and still found them warping. So, I used my son's heat gun to warm the plate up a bit and that took the warp out easily. Just be careful not to burn your fingers with the gun. I also put a heavy book on top to smooth the plate out and let it cool. I have new plates!! Most of the cutting marks were also removed with this method. No mess. And no color change.

It would be just as fast, if not faster, to just throw a ruler down and cut with a rotary cutter; less waste as well.
@grandmalovesmebest6 жыл бұрын
D H Sometimes there is more to consider than time. A cutter makes quilting, appliqué, etc possible for anyone with arthritis or hand injuries, or low hand strength, or any physical problem that prohibits cutting accuracy. Also, some ppl may not want to do repetitive tasks if they are very creative or have attention difficulties. I had to cut 360 dresden plates and I was VERY thankful that I invested in my cutting machine just bc WHO WANTS TO CUT 360 DRESDENS?!
@petmomful22606 жыл бұрын
@@grandmalovesmebest I have an Accuquilt GO and I really love it. It improves my accuracy a lot. Some of the dies, for applique, are intricate; things you would not attempt by hand, such as a snowflake. What is even cooler is, if you have an embroidery machine, you can get the embroidery files that match the dies, and stitch the applique down right on the embroidery machine! If I had a hand injury, however, I agree with you that the Gemini would be very helpful!
@petmomful22606 жыл бұрын
I don't think a rotary cutter is faster. You can really crank out a lot of shapes with a die cutter. You can also cut out intricate shapes such as snowflakes for appliques. I guess it all depends on your style of quilting and what you want. I have a pain issue, so getting help with a cutting machine is worth it to me.
