Patsy used to babysit a couple of my friends as kids. She worked at the drugstore across the street from their house at a place called Gaunt’s Drugstore in Winchester, VA. I was friends with her husband Charlie Dick’s brother, Mel Dick. Never met Patsy as she died when I was pretty young. Her husband Charlie was well known and seen about the Winchester area often. Mel was a good guy and we hung out at some of the same dance clubs back in the day. There’s a museum in Winchester dedicated to her. It used to be common to run into people who had various memories of Patsy to share. Many of them have since died and there are very few of us left who knew her and the people in her life.

The backup singers are The Jordanaires. They were a quartet that started as gospel singers in 1948. In the 1950’s they started lending themselves as backup singers to recording stars. From 1956 to 1970, they were Elvis’s backup singers on records, live shows, and tv. They still backed others during this time, like Patsy. They split when he moved his show to Vegas.

It's called a "Cry" in the voice Patsy probably had the best. Linda Ronstadt and Patty Loveless do it very well too. Try Faded Love for more emotional power by Patsy.

Classic country!! Sung by an icon. Her singing emotes so much pain in her songs..at least some of them..the ones that need that inflection. Best friends with Loretta Lynn and now they are singing to the angels, backed up by all the musicians and singers that went before them. Thank you, Saeed. Much love to you and your family❤🫂. Oh, 2 movies to add to your "to watch" list: Sweet Dreams ( about Patsy's life) and Coal Miner's Daughter ( about Loretta Lynn's life) those movies kind of interact with both those great lady's lives 😊

I was lucky enough one weekend to meet the Jordanaires one weekend in Laughlin, Nevada. At least some of them. There was a concert next door to our hotel, featuring a gathering of Elvis impersonators. What was cool about it, was that The Jordanaires were special guests to sing along with the impersonators. After the show while walking back on the boardwalk back to our hotel, we encountered and walked with 2 of The Jordanaires and their wives. What was really cool, was when we checked out of the hotel Sunday morning, they rode down in the elevator with us as well. I've know who they were since I was a kid because they were listed on some of my old 45's of Elvis. I was over the moon. They wouldn't be recognized necessarily, but I knew who they were!

Leann Rimes does a great job of covering Patsy's songs. Her voice is very similar and she has that cry in the voice down pat. I'm an old hippy rock and roller but I love to listen to Patsy. She has one of the top five female voices of the past century if you ask me.
@daleb12799 күн бұрын
Another amazing voice that came from Patsy's era, who also had the "Nashville sound" to her recordings in that time period including backup by the Jordanaires is Brenda Lee. Brenda was the best selling female artist of the 1960s and started singing so young before she was even 10 years old and is still with us singing on occasion. But its not Christmas without Christmas without Brenda Lee's Rockin Around the Christmas Tree. Brenda has talked about how she was just a young teen and Patsy would let her come to her house and play "dress up" in her closet with Patsy's much more glamorous clothes. Patsy really led the style for female singers in country and adopted a more sophisticated look with gowns vs. the cowgirl and rhinestones look that was then so prevalent and which still is actually. But, bottom line, you are missing out on another amazing voice if you aren't diving into Brenda Lee's catalogue. You might start with I'm Sorry or All Alone Am I keeping in mind she wasn't even 18 years old when she recorded many of her greatest hits.

The single version is much more polished than this live version. Live performances were very difficult during that Era because of the limited technology available at that time. The studio version was normally the best that could be produced because the technology was all in the studio. It took decades for tech to catch up to live concerts before it would resemble what was done in the studio

Saeed, I really love your channel and appreciate your analysis of the lyrics of the many great songs you've listened to (especially recently). It was difficult to watch this one, as I think Patsy Cline had one of the best voices of the mid 20th century and this video had such poor audio quality as her voice was drowned out by the backing vocals and hiss. While I know why you are looking for videos to watch while you react, there are so many songs from the 1970's and earlier that (IMO) are so much better when you "listen" and not worry about "watching."
