After the very first read through of Ab Fab, Joanna Lumley called her agent and asked them to get her out of the contract. Joanna felt that she was terrible in the read and that Jennifer Saunders hated her. Her agent told her to stick it out because “it’s just a pilot”. I love that story because it’s a helpful reminder that even someone with the comedic brilliance of Joanna Lumley who created one of the greatest characters in television history goes through periods of self doubt and inadequacy. Thank goodness she stuck it out!

Those were all Jennifer Saunders’ writings. The series came partly out of a “French & Saunders” skit (Jennifer as Edina, Dawn as Saffy), and partly out of a Ruby Wax episode where she broke into Joanna Lumley’s house (climbed up the drainpipe, as I recall) and found she had become a decrepit, alcoholic recluse since her young hawt-babe days. You see Ruby credited as “Script Editor”, so I guess she had some input to the writing, too.

When I was around fourteen, I stumbled across Absolutely Fabulous, in the dead of night, while spending the weekend at my father and stepmother's house. They had a lot of channels that were unknown to me at the time, since the had satellite instead of cable. I had become rather disillusioned with the satellite service once I discovered that even with hundreds of channels, there still seemed to be nothing on worth watching late at night. Within a matter of minutes I realized that I had something new to fanboy over! Despite being extremely, fanatically anti-alcohol and anti-drug, I found Patsy and Eddie to be absolutely delightful! One of my favorite moments in the series was when Patsy was unable to remember her real age! It became just slightly less funny after the same thing happened to me a few years ago! It is a good example of knowing when it's high time to end a bender/binge! And now, many years later than I care to think about, Absolutely Fabulous remains one of the only shows, ever, that I still love just as much as when it was still new to me! I wish that they would commit to a few more seasons! While I can think of numerous duos that would have been better role models for my sister and I, none of them are nearly as fun! Cheers sweetie darlings!!! 😘

I'd been watching this , for quite a while, starring Miss Joanna Lumley , ...then Lo and Behold, she was cast as one of the Wicked Aunties in " James and the Giant Peach " in 1996. I recognized her straight away, and other people were asking themselves " who she was ". .... she was perfectly cast for that Role. ... I don't know if people realize she's been in many movies, including Wolf of Wall Street ; Ella Enchanted , as well as " Absolutely Fabulous ", the Movie in 2016. She's had a long career, I even saw her on " Are you Being Served " ... ( I think she might have been married to Jeremy Lloyd at the time, not sure .) She's very talented, playing one of the most humorous and great Roles in this Show .... I'm glad she is still gracing the Earthly Plane . Of course, Jennifer Saunders was given a Role that suited her, as well.... so talented, the both of them.

Patsy's best line ever was, when they found Eddie's dead father hidden in the room with all the paintings: Eddie, "It's my father!" Patsy, "Yes, Eddie. But is it art?"

I agree. That's my favourite Patsy line. "Yes Eddie, but is it art"? "No it's me father" cracks me up everytime

Edie: to Saffy about her birth: I knew I wanted you the moment I saw you. Patsy: The NEXT day however.
