"And I'm an OVUM." One Sunday night in a neighborhood bar in Louisville, Kentucky, I got to pick the weekly Sunday video marathon and I picked AbFab. We started the marathon early when the pub was mostly populated with mid-South blue collar "manly men" who had probably never seen a British comedy outside of Monty Python. They were absolutely riveted by AbFab, roaring with laughter at every turn, and I gather a few stayed past their bedtimes to see "just one more episode" of this madness.

The two (Julia & Jennifer) actually played rival roommate starving actresses in an early one-off precursor to AbFab where most of the AbFab performers appeared as sort of versions of their later roles in the show. Lumley lived in the flat below or something and June Whitfield (Gran) was living with a failed agent guy who I only recall in a guest role from a single AbFab. There was also a French & Saunders sketch where Dawn French played schoolgirl Saffy to Jennifer's Edina character.

@@puirYorick Are you talking about Mirrorball? That show debuted in-between The 1994 special The Last Shout and AbFab’s 2001 resurrection. I think it was too similar to AbFab so it didn’t take off.
@puirYorick
@puirYorick 2 жыл бұрын
@@SDoesNotKnow Quite possibly that was the real timeline. I only ever saw a single episode and it was clear that it was the same AbFab cast but they were all doing show-biz types interacting in much the same way with trading barbs and whatnot. My main thought was that Jenn & Julia were indeed more of a similar age in this other show than their Eddy & Saffy characters.

@@Panwere36I personally always thought that even though Edina and Patsy probably deserved Saffy's anger there were times when Saffy went too far. In one episode Edina together with Patsy, Fleur and Catriona were drinking champagne 🍾 🥂 and talking about the September 11th terrorist attack on the world trade centre in New York🗽which is known as 9/11 and Edina accidentally thought it was called 7/11 because she was confused with the 7/11 convenience store 🏪 chain in America 🇺🇲 and Saffy was just really nasty to her mum for making a mistake which really wasn't justified at all. If fact sometimes I thought Saffy was just a horrible person although maybe I was misinterpreting the shows humour.

Friend had us all over for the W/E, mid-70s. He had no TV but had bought one for his brother's birthday present some months earlier. TV license guy shows up (all alone...) and demands to search so he's led into the living room and there's about 10-15 hung-over unhappy greasers sleeping on the floor. He disappeared and came back with a PC to search the premises. They were very thorough but a TV's a bit hard to 'plant' :D

A newspaper📰🗞️ article at the end of the episode says "PASTY STONE 49 RECOVERING AT HOME AFTER HORRIFIC FACELIFT" with a sub headline saying "I feel like a whole new woman". Of course Patsy if you've had an acid peel you're bound to feel like a whole new woman LOL!

AbFab Fun Facts 2 = Age differences, year of birth : Joanna Lumley = 1946 Jennifer Saunders = 1958 Julia Sawalha = 1968 June Whitfield = 1925 Patsy & Eddie were supposed to have been school friends. But in real life their age difference is 12 years. Therefore Eddie would have been starting school when Patsy was finishing school. Eddie & Saffy are mother and daughter. But in real life their age difference is 10 years. That would mean that Eddie would have had Saffy when she was 10 years old.

The school thing is explained a bit. Patsy said she was bigger than the teacher when she started nursery, and a series 5 flashback shows Eddy and Patsy at school, Eddy being a child and Patsy being a grown woman.
