01. Is it Science? Or is it Snake Oil?

As the demand grows for reading materials and practices that are based on research, the term "science of reading" has become an industry catchphrase. Unfortunately, anyone can use that phrase to sell a product, with no assurance that the product is actually evidence-based. It can be daunting to sift through the claims to find what is really based in science and what is simply a repackaging of old, ineffective methods. This session will address simple measures that practitioners can take to ensure that what they use is truly effective. (K - 12)
