Wait and see about the tax! I remember when VAT was first introduced in Thailand back in early 90th, the revenue department added VAT on the monthly condo charge we payed for the upkeep of our condo. Many countries have limited but tax free savings interest programs that are not a pension but are getting very much more important for early retirees. This would devastate those planning on being neutrally independent without working.

I think the unfortunate thing about these tax changes is that Thailand has encouraged seniors to retire to the Kingdom and spend their latter years here. It is now grossly unfair that the retirement rules - relating to taxation- are changed for retirees who have already spent many years living and spending retirement money here. It is likely that some retirees would not have come to Thailand if they had for-seen or been forewarned of these possible changes in this country's tax law. I am now looking at moving to Phillppines !

On the tax issue- if Thailand wants to tax my income, I want the same benefits and product pricing as a Thai person. Will that happen? Also, the world wide income proposal will likely cause an exodus of higher earning retiree expats. Lower income retirees will likely not be impacted too much, other than the cost of complying g with the reporting requirements.

Thailand was with the axis powers. Interesting to see a D day celebration in Thailand. I know he is a tax expert but I was told by the Thailand government at the BoI office that LTR visas were excluded from the proposed taxation. Thailand will die in a day if they think that they can go to global income tax. Malaysia does not tax global income so people may look to the sarawak mm2h visa. Thailand seems to enjoy this kind of thing and it only makes them a less stable retirement location. Many other outstanding countries to retire to if thailand goes forward and changes things first retirees. Thanks for the video and enjoy your new home.

Listen at mark 12:50 he clearly says this is not geared toward expats Why the hell did he bring this tax issue up We all are mostly retirees on retirement visas We do not have ids to this country We are only guest with 90 day reports. We can leave at anytime or they could kick us out Our money is from our own country we all have payed our taxes You ever want to double tax all of us retirees then the government of thailand is going to have to give us the same benefits as the Thai people. I will speak only for me Try to tax my money and I’m going and so it’s all my money sitting in the bank making me not a damn bit of interest.

It was very ironical ceremony. Thailand before D Day had already declared war against the US and the UK. The Thai Ambassador presented a declaration of war to the UK government which was accepted. The Thai Ambassador in Washington presented a declaration of war to the US government on 25 January 1942 and was told to put it away by US Secretary of State. The US already knew about the declaration of war, as the US had broken the Japanese and Thai codes,

@keithd1219 Ай бұрын
You're not being taxed twice. Thailand has a higher tax bracket in some cases, so if you're taxable income in the US Is 33%, in Thailand that same amount of income is taxed at 38%. As a tax resident over 180 days, you would then be responsible to pay the additional 5% difference to Thailand. This is something they talked about over 6 months ago, yet people don't want to see it. You're not being taxed twice, you'll just be paying an additional amount to Thailand depending on your tax bracket. It won't effect everyone.

@nickmaidment I've been really reading up on this, but it's still a bit muddled up, which is why even the tax accountants are still somewhat confused. Should everything pass through Thailand legislation, and they keep as its proposed, do you really think the beer swigging expats are going to follow the requirements? No chance...and they're going to have a real eye opener when they think they can avoid opening up a thai bank account and avoid it. Come time to renew their visas, they'll be denied and kicked out of the country or they'll overstay trying to avoid immigration and get arrested and deported. It's going to be real shit show for the next few years if Thailand sticks completely to their plan. Also, I hear over and over that there's no way they can know what people have in their bank accounts abroad. These guys never heard of the bank secrecy law to avoid money laundering where you have they worldwide access to your accounts. There's going to be a lot of deportations.

The United States Thailand tax treaty states that the United States retain the rights and only rights to tax any government retirement social security disability an or government payments. However, non-government private pensions are subject to taxation in Thailand. If you are a resident of Thailand and receive a private pension payment or lump sum 401K IRA those pensions are not subject to taxation in the United States. If you have a private pension and you have paid taxes for the last few years of United States you may qualify to get those tax funds returned.
@keithd1219
@keithd1219 Ай бұрын
@KenBrownies Agreed 👍, Now, correct me if I'm wrong. All foreigners residing in Thailand more than 180 days will need a tax identification number. I believe that will be issued by your thai bank account via or through the Thailand department of revenue. As such, you will be required to complete a tax form for Thailand, even if you owe no money to Thailand.

Interesting that Thailand had a celebration remembering those lost on D-Day, when historically Thailand was at war with Japan for about one day when the Japanese invaded Prachuap Khiri Khan on Dec 7th1941 as a means of crossing the isthmus to thwart the English army abandoning Burma. And following this were basically a Japanese supported puppet government until its demise in 1944. However given the number of expats in Pattaya some form of remembrance is justified at least for photo ops...if nothing else.

You don’t get double taxes. Either Britain or Thailand get the one time tax money. Nothing new here

As an American veteran yourself, you couldn't have kept the D-day remembrance and the rainbow parade in separate videos? I'd have watched both, as I watch all your videos, but dude... you could have made a better call on this one. With that being said, that was interesting tax info... Vietnam hmmm

@@REALPERSON-mv9mpThis. You don't have to agree, and you don't have to like it. But if you don't agree that everyone has the right to live as they wish, you're a god damn hypocrite. I actually think mixing the two events together is actually a good representation of what was being fought for in the first place.
