I love this design so much!! Im new to apparel making, I usually do blankets and such, and I've been having a hard time finding good quality apparel material. Like the burgundy fabric you use in this video. Could you recommend any shops online?

I’m in New Zealand and tend to shop local, so I’m sorry I can’t really help you out. If you google brushed sweatshirting fleece, that is what I used in this video, it could also be a good idea to have a look around Facebook, there are lots of sewing groups full of lovely people who are happy to help out with suggestions. Good luck

This is awesome! I play Elder Scrolls Online and there are numerous hoods (with the inner scarf) like this. I definitely want to make this one. I wonder how it would look with a softer visor part. I'm thinking about that because my mother likes to have her hood fall over her face somewhat to keep her warm (she gets cold very easily). Seeing hood construction helps. I want to do a detachable sherpa lining for hoods and I think this gives a good idea for a nice construction (sans visor part) for it. I like the hood holds its shape more because of the 3 piece construction (well, obviously more than 3 pieces, but 3 visible different pieces from the back/sides). It would allow for color blocking to add some flair. Like maybe a red stripe in the middle. I very much like the fabric colors you chose. This style hood would be neat with the grandfather's cardigan.

It would look great with a softer visor - and don't fuse the piece if you want it to drape better - for even more drape just don't topstitch the lines in also. Your project sounds fabulous. Thanks for watching

@@TrishNewberyDesign Thanks. I just bought the pattern. I'm also wondering if I could add a strip of fabric that is softer (possibly the same kind that goes over the face) that can come down on the forehead but attaches at the same spot as the front band (behind the visor). I think that might be a lot of fabric to sew through, but it could add a little extra warmth and be folded/tucked away-- if it doesn't hang too far forward. Another idea was to add an inner hood like the balaclava that attaches to the face piece from the back/sides to have a tighter fit. On colder days it could be pulled up inside the hood and on warmer days it can be tucked away. I think the strip would be simpler, but would have to see how it hangs. It doesn't usually get very cold here but we had a record cold here in February. My mother is particularly sensitive to cold so I want to make something warm for her. I also have a friend who hates the cold. I think he'd love a hood like this- perhpas with a sherpa lining. I suppose I could just do the inner part in sherpa instead of the outside fabric.

I think the balaclava idea - could work well - the bulk sewing should be OK - but it would depend on your fabric choice. I think if you sewed extra fabric to the visor it could be a little annoying if it draped too far forward, but it really depends what you want, and what you like. If you can come up with a sketch I'd be happy to work it through with you

@@TrishNewberyDesign Thanks! I'll have to play around with the fabrics i have for draping and see how it looks/feels. Making the visor soft might just be the easiest way to do it, but I might consider maybe a half balaclava forehead piece that starts farther back and is only visible from the inside.

:) Once you start and you can actually see it you will get a pretty good feel for what you want. Happy sewing
