Interesting. I never drew that conclusion, about the card readers between the gauges of the Knitmaster machines, then again, I never gave it much thought when I was a Knitmaster user. When you explained it, it made absolute perfect sense. Interesting that the Brother chunky 260 uses the same principle as the standard gauge punchcard versions but they managed to still give it a 24 stitch repeat. This makes it absolutely ideal for using your favourite lace cards for your chunky machine, as the cards are interchangeable with the standard and chunky models. I admire your make do persona in this video though, it was very refreshing.

Thanks Sally - superb overview and lots of top tips! I I have the SK155 and SR155 ribber too and I wondered if you've ever tried PLATTING on the Chunky machine? The standard gauge machine Operation Manuals give instructions for PLATTING but I can't see anything in the SK155 Operations Manual.

Thanks Theresa. I haven’t tried plating on the chunky machine. There is no plating feeder, but I read somewhere that you can accomplish it by doing thread lace and using a card to pattern every stitch, locked on that row. But I’ve never tried it!

Thank you for your informative video! I was wondering why the needle closest to the carriage needs to be pushed out purposefully, but other times, it is not done?

The reason this is done on tuck and slip stitches is to ensure that this end needle knits instead of tucking or slipping. On Fairisle it captures both floats at the side of the knitting and makes a neater edge. Experiment by just knitting, and then putting out the edge needle and you’ll see the difference.

How do you Knit lace on it? Do you need a lace carriage and if so, which model fits?

You need a separate lace carriage to knit true lace either the LC2 or the earlier 360L will work. See my tutorial on using the LC2. You can knit “mock” lace without a separate carriage - either punch lace, which uses a fine filament thread to create holes and the illusion of lace - it’s described in all the instruction books. Or tuck lace, which is tuck stitch but on a needle arrangement where some needles are left out of work to create an open fabric.

Hello, does anyone know where I could find SR155 ribber for a reasonable price? The ones on ebay are extremely expensive at the moment :(

It’s because they are rare, and rarity drives the price. They haven’t made the ribber for many years and many chunky owners back in the day didn’t bother with one as hand knitting chunky trims isn’t anything like as tedious as doing them in 4 ply, so there aren’t as many out there in the second hand market.

It is an EC1 electronic Mylar sheet reader for electronic machines - it is not used in connection with the SK155.
