Hi y’all just a quick correction to my comments on the storm sweater pattern errors. It actually looks like a more recent version of the pattern has corrected the front neck shaping instructions but the sleeve shaping still seems to be missing a decrease!

Sad to hear about the mistakes in the storm sweater pattern. I've already bought yarn for mine and am just waiting for the right time to cast on, but I am saddened that even after the fiasco that was the sleeve decreases in the Ingrid sweater, that this very similar sweater pattern has similar mistakes too. With how big of a designer Petite Knit is and the size of her team, you'd think that they would pay a bit more attention when pattern editing and translating.

It's maybe not a good idea to advertise one yarn for profit, while ditsing another yarn company. Quite a bit of advertising on this blog, which is a pity as it's otherwise enjoyable.

I will try to be mindful of balancing the feeling of over-advertising out in the future! Thank you for this feedback. To build on this conversation, what would you like to see with respect to commentary on yarns? It is always my goal to share my honest experience with yarns, and to that end I have made several positive comments about Peer Gynt and discussed my gauge challenges with Pura across different videos. I apologize that in this particular case the commentary seemed motivated by personal gain.

@@knitsbyadaI think Rita’s comment is referring to my discussions about Peer Gynt and Originally Lovely yarns, and it is not a direct response to your comment.

Thanks for the tips on the Storm sweater. Just purchased the recommended yarn for that. Also in my queue is the Naima cardigan in Biches &Buches lambs wool. Don’t know which I’ll start after wrapping up my Shifty pullover. I’m itching to cast on but think I will satisfy myself with knitting gauge swatches first. Love your videos….

I’m a struggling to learn knitter and have taken on the challenge of making this storm sweater. I just started the pattern where you use German short rows to shape the back neck. It seems like the next part says to add 2 knit stitches at the end of each short row creating a garter stitch effect. I’m very confused. Glad to find your channel 😁

Thank you for your input about the pattern errors . Over my many years of knitting, I’ve encountered many patterns errors ( translated and in English). Frequently, I’ve relied on pattern photos for guidance. Now I can seek out pattern corrections on the internet, although it’s still hit and miss. About being an affiliate of a yarn company…. I see may content creators on KZbin who “earn” a nominal commission and also continue to give honest opinions if they don’t like everything. For me, it’s a nice way to learn about new products. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts whether you are an affiliate or not.

Can anyone explain the first section chart on page 9 and where do I stop for the 2-3 size, but also the start of the left shoulder section which is making no sense to me … maybe just me, but would appreciate any help ..

Thanks for letting us know about the errors you found on the Storm sweater. I’m not sure I want to deal with the errors, but knowing where they are is so helpful. And also thank you for the tip on Icelandic bind-off. I paused your video to go learn it and I’m binding off my Cardigan no.8 by My Favourite Things Knitwear while I watch. It is so easy, quick, and decorative. I love it! I also love the color of your Storm sweater. But I have question I’m hoping you can reply to. Is it. Bright orange or is it an orange red color? Oh and I’d love it if you wrote a pattern for your hat. So cute! And your color pairing is beautiful. Oh wait I see it now in the description! Thanks so much.

I’ve had a bit of an obsession with the Peer Gynt yarn lately and I don’t really know why. I just think it’s so great to work with and texture is amazing. But I haven’t had much issue with bleeding. I just finished a colour work jumper in a dark orange, dark purple, light pink and white. I had barely any colour in the water after and nothing bled into the water. But I’d be worried about bleeding if I had experienced a lot of bleeding with it. But I just have to say, your Storm Sweater is stunning!
@highfiberknits

Thank you! I think I’ve concluded that it’s the hot blocking water, and I didn’t have any bleeding issues with a hot pink and dark green Sandnes Garn Sunday recently. I think with the orange being so potent, I’m happy to have let out some dye and it makes me less worried to wear it with light pants lol

Love your finished Storm Sweater and self drafted hat! In regards to the bleeding of Sandnes Garn yarns, I’ve never had that experience! I’ve used That Orange Feeling in Sunday, the Cobalt Blue Double Sunday and just blocked a cream and black striped sweater in Double Sunday with no bleeding in all. It got me thinking, I wonder if it’s the wool wash? I use Soak (no rinse) and in cool water typically.

Hey ! I recently knitted the Lyon sweater chunky edition by petite knit in Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt colors navy and cream and wet blocking went without any issues ! I was definitely concerned about navy bleeding onto my cream stripes but it didn't thankfully ! I must admit for this particular sweater I made sure to wet block it with cold water instead of lukewarm water.

I really want to knit the sandes yarn guernsey sweater (I think, I have looked at so many patterns similar to the storm sweater) but I don’t understand how to get the pattern. If you are worried about dye leaching, if you hank it up or leave it in a hank you could wash the yarn before using. It would be more work but would have less stress.

Oh shoot! I'm just finishing my first sleeve for the Storm sweater. Are you talking about the diagonal stripe section? Do you mind elaborating a bit on where you added the extra decrease? Thank you!
@highfiberknits
@highfiberknits Жыл бұрын
That sounds about right! If you look closely at the chart all of the decrease rows have a decrease at the start and at the end (I.e. at the right side and left side of the chart). There is one row missing a decrease on the left side of the chart or at the end of the round.
@JulieLeChef
@JulieLeChef Жыл бұрын
@@highfiberknits Oh interesting, I actually don't see a missing decrease on my chart. Maybe she updated the pattern? The diagonal stripe doesn't quite line up correctly though, so I was wondering if that might be related. I did notice on the armhole increase charts, that some of the increases should probably have been done purlwise, but this is my first Petiteknit pattern so I just followed what was written. Regardless, your sweater is gorgeous! That color is amazing! Electric Orange 🤩

I wonder if they do the test group before issuing the pattern. A lot of knitting designers which I know, build a group of knitters which do the test knitting of the project. It’s a good way to catch all the mistakes.
@highfiberknits
@highfiberknits Жыл бұрын
I am not sure; I often see some projects on Instagram before the Ravelry / Website pattern release, but I have limited knowledge of the PetiteKnit design or testing process. I think translation issues can be trickier to catch since patterns are not typically re-tested in different languages.

Thank you for your detailed review, I love to watch your videos because of it. I do have one question: What about the smell of peer Gynt? I couldn't stand knitting the yarn what with the smell filling up the room. What is your experience, does it go away after washing?
@highfiberknits
@highfiberknits Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! I’m not one to typically smell yarns or make note of it, so I didn’t find it impacted my knitting experience. It definitely did have a bit of a wet sheep smell with blocking, but I find that with the vast majority of my yarns and have chalked it up to the scent of the wool wash I use having an odd mingling with the wool smell 👃 🤣

I have been knitting the storm sweater and didn’t notice the mistakes - went back and checked the sleeve chart and the decreases are all there and it makes sense - I purchased the pattern a few weeks after Emily/High Fiber Knits so maybe Petite Knit updated it in that time and didn’t let on?

Honestly I've seen so much criticism towards Petite Knit, starting at her non-size-inclusive sizing and her new definition of size-inclusive, which fat people have repeatedly offered her advice on which seemed to have been ignored by her. Generelly I do understand why people like her designs, but I feel like not only because of a lack of size inclusivity but also her lack of care when it comes to swiftly correcting mistakes shows that she doesn't care enough to provide the same experience many many other knitting pattern designers do provide. Especially because most of her designs are so vanilla, that it is easy to find a similar pattern that's written more clearly and more inclusive. I have personally purchased a couple of her patterns and I personally own about 30-50 patterns from at least 25 different designers and hers were the most disappointing patterns for me yet. I have stopped buying any of her patters for those reasons.
