That's such an uplifting and inspiring video, thanks Matt. Great explanation of how you use naturea nd design patterns on your land. I also love that you are bold enough to measure your own practices against conventional ones, and sociable enough to connect with people locally. Natural educator, and warrior of the open heart indeed!

This is one of the most well produced videos in the permaculture/regenerative agriculture/market gardening space I've ever seen. Well done! You have a new fan.

nice perspective - I too have wondered why neighbours don't seem to follow the abundance path of permaculture blocks.

Your enthusiasm wins through and you know you are on the right path. It takes a while for path finders to lead the way, but we shall. I am creating our own agroecological oasis in our half acre and loving every moment of it.

I've recently discovered permaculture and I'm finding that there is a lot that I do that is already 'permaculture' I do find that most of it is simply common sense. Thank you for this, I've learnt something from you ♥

I know nothing about growing food, but am going to give it a go in a little garden that I am about to have (all being well) I am so excited to get started. This is such an inspiring video for people to watch, especially for farmers (I assume) I was thinking while watching it, that may be an idea would be for farmers to let a little bit of land off to some of those amazing enthusiasts who would love to have the space to put the principles of permaculture into practice? They could do the work in return for their own experience, the majority of the food grown and in view of handing it over to the farmer for them to carry on and maybe expand in the future? I expect farmers feel they have enough to do without having to learn and start something new and experimental? If there were a few of these going on, there could be a little co-operative in food, skills and community education. I honestly think moving forward we all need to know how to grow our own food and more importantly, we need to be able to produce enough food to support our population without destroying the land and planet. I look forward to following your journey and learning from you and your community in one of my most favourite places in the world, beautiful Wales. Thank you for the work you are doing. XXX

It is an interesting question ‘why are more farmers not doing it’. I spent early lockdown trying to grow stuff in my super sandy soil, dug in loads of organic manure with little success. I turned to KZbin to see how to make compost and my learning journey took off - massively. I do not understand why farmers aren’t adopting permaculture ways, it makes no sense to me, a newbie. - That is the first clue, I’m new to growing and I’m willing to learn and I’m not trying to make money at it. I believe mainstream farmers are so stuck literally in their ruts they are not able to go back to nature. The other problem is our food suppliers - even local independent shops. I’ve been told numerous times by my local veg shop there is no demand for organic and all they try and focus on is local produce ( and they don’t manage too much of that !). My local butcher told me years ago there was no demand for free range bacon , and I said ‘ I’m the demand’ but nothing happened. So I’ve been trying my hardest to support local organic and my local shops are not trying to even give it a good shot. I believe it is up to us the public to be way more vocal and continually ask for better, continually challenge the mediocre substandard offerings. It is very tiring to be what sounds like complaining when I’m shopping. If I were younger I would try a market garden career.

Accidentally clicked on this video before reading the title, so glad I did. I’m also in north wales. Practicing permaculture in our back garden and allotment. Aiming to promote permaculture techniques through them, and sow the seeds of change in our village. Thanks for the video, good thoughts and inspiration!

Really lovely, well made film, thanks Matt, family and helpers, human and other than human. btw Even though Lidl and the like are part of the current skewed global system that doesn't account for externalities, there's no shame in going to such shops if you can't afford anything else (reference your remark) - I know of organic growers and wholefood retailers who shop there, a reflection of the fact that making an adequate living from 'right livelihoods' is still very tough. Roll on system change so that decent, healthy, nutrient dense food produced in an ecologically sound way is affordable for all :-)
