In this video, I show you how to measure armhole depth and sleeve cap height on both patterns and garments. Once you learn how to take measurements from garments accurately, you can apply those measurements to your patterns. When you have reference samples, you take measurements properly so you can create the patterns you want.
You will also learn about sleeve sitting depending on the sleeve cap height.

👩 About me 👩
My name is Jin Kim and I have been a professional pattern maker for over 20 years.
While I had one-on-one teaching besides my full-time work, I could teach only a few people. So, I created a KZbin channel in 2021 to reach out to more people so that they can get benefits from my experience.
This channel is all about pattern makings. You’re in the right place if you are a young professional or a fashion student who wants to improve your pattern-making skills.

Thank you! I recently drafted a knitted sweater pattern based on my measurements (I have a disproportionately large bicep), and ended up with a shallow (lower) and wide sleeve cap. Thought I made a mistake, as everything I read about sweater patterns said that the sleep cap should look like a bell curve, and mine was a very flattened curve rather than bell shaped. Your explanation that a shorter sleeve cap height creates a larger bicep made me feel confident that I arrived at the correct sleeve cap for my upper arm circumference. Very grateful for your video!!! 💖

I always struggle with the sleeves because my biceps are too chubby ,and if I make the sleeve wider, the jacket looks too wide in the chest or the sleeve pulls to the sides😢
@PatternStudio101
@PatternStudio101 4 ай бұрын
Try across chest a little smaller so the body looks small be it will make armhole length longer. Then you can have wider bicep.

Just discovered your site. Awesome information. I do have a question. on this video, the shirt you are wearing has lia fold line going to the front from under the arm. I see this on so many garments. Is there a way to fix that? Get rid of it? I would be so happy to learn how to do this. Thank you.
@PatternStudio101
@PatternStudio101 2 ай бұрын
The skirt I’m wearing is jersey fabric and the garment chest is 10” smaller than my body measurement. Because the fabric is stretchable I enjoy the tightness. If you want to get rid of that drag lines you can make the t shirt chest bigger than the body chest.

she made an assumption that most of her viewers are young professionals. although wrong, she's not actively trying to alienate those of us who are not young or professionals, she just made an innocent but incorrect assumption. please don't assume bad intention when it's a mistake that can be made by any of us. and assuming bad intention will be making the same mistake she made because she assumed in the first place just as you have. hope you have a great day and I mean none of this with hate in my heart, only care
