9:11 PokemonChallenges allows himself to catch shinys but not use them. The reason being that in some occasions ginding for an extra pokemon by shiny hunting is a legitimate option and he doesn't like that.

The rules he uses for that is that he can choose to catch the pokemon but if he does that replaces the encounter for that route.

This is why I don't hate on any Pokemon or call them trash. Every Pokemon has a use if trained well with the right strategy. And every Pokemon can also be someone's favorite for any reason. Why make them feel bad for it? Maybe some Pokemon are considered more god tier, but even gods can fall.

reminder: this is using a Drayano ROM Hack for the base. this means alot of nonsense have buffs shoved down their throat. Luvdisc, for example, gets Water/Fairy typing on top of whatever probably-large Stat buff it got for being so trash

Literally no body cares about shinies. It's just the same Pokemon with a slightly different color. If you're doing a no damage run and you ran into a shiny and you're so ignorant that you try'na catch but ends up damaging you, it's not a smart play.

The way pchal's shiny clause works is If he has caught the same species of pokemon, than the shiny, he can catch it So if he had a geodude, he can catch a shiny geodude. But if he doesnt have that geodude, he cant catch the shiny geodude. (also if the regular geodude he caught, died, he cant have the shiny

Regarding the comments on Set vs Switch Battle Style: When I was younger, I assumed the AI would cheat and see what I was sending out and send out a counter. Because why wouldn't I assume that. That's what I did. I would therefore nickname my pokemon after other pokemon. e.g. I would normally name my starter after the starter that gets left behind thinking "Hah, if I name my Squirtle "Charmander", then there's no way he'll use Bulbasaur. He'll use a ground type instead or something"

If I understand correctly PC doesnt use the shiny clause in the same way. He likes to make his rules in a way that the optimal strategy is the most fun. Technically you have unlimited pokemon with the shiny clause if you want to grind them. Another reason is because the optimal strategy is to always grind (he likes rare candy's now) and to never repel. These are things that could be considered boring for the stream. Instead, if he gets a shiny of a pokemon that he already caught, he can choose to replace it. Still technically abusable to get better IVs and nature, but is much more negligible and rarely worth the time. No judgment on if it's right or wrong, but I think he has some good points.

i feel as though that takes away a major part of the nuzlocke aside from his mons not getting any ev's from it. i understand grinding is tedious as all hell, but this doesn't just feel like it, but it also is just hacking the game to your benefit, kinda feels like cheating

i agree that grinding is tedious as all hell, but when it comes to hacking in runs like these, i feel as though hacking rare candies just takes away the legitimacy of the run. first off, it's a hack that's used to make the game easier, does it speed up grinding? yes, but grinding is part of the nuzlocke, because if you grind, you also run the risk of losing a mon, that's what a nuzlocke is about. second, that's something dumb cause if you use rare candies, yes, you won't have to grind, but your pokemon won't be getting any ev's and will still end up being weak. i just think that it's better to suck it up and grind or if you want to speed it up, just use speed up, same end result and it just makes your pokemon stronger Edit: this is just my opinion, everyone is free to do as they want.
