While it's fair to say Madonna isn't a great actress, the dead behind the eyes comment is being dramatic. Madonna even in her music videos has always emoted well and expressed plenty of feeling through her eyes. As for Cher she has simply always been jealous of Madonna. Though a better actress, Cher is not a better singer or performer. Madonna is one of the best selling performers of all time. Cher had a few hit songs nothing to rival Madonna. Cher liked to see herself as daring and outrageous but she always paled next to Madonna and that clearly made her very envious.

@Parker930 really? I liked her in State and Main and Driving Miss Daisy, even on TV: Penny Dreadful, Pose, 30 Rock and AHS, she's really great in ALL of those. Madonna is known for her TERRIBLE acting, however, its not all on her, the movies she chooses are pretty boring and she contributes nothing to make it interesting. Watch Patti doing 'Rose's Turn' both acting and singing as refined as can be. One thing I don't like about Patti in movies sometimes is her over pronunciation. But I guess that's a stage habit.

I love Madonna and have since the beginning of her career when I was a little kid but Patti is unfortunately right. There have been a couple acceptable roles Madonna has pulled off but the majority of the time she's just not believable. In her videos I think her acting is great to be honest and I think it's because she's able to actually connect with the material, it being her own music. But in movies it seems like she just can't translate that into other types of characters.

I disagree completely, the scene where she was dying was very well done as were others. It's a long form music video it's right up her alley. Lupone is entitled to her opinion and she is/was a big deal on Broadway. I'm sure she's a bit bitter that the movie didn't go to her but she was too old by that time and frankly nobody would buy tickets to see that face on a huge screen lol. I know Madonna is only 10 years younger but Lupone wouldn't have fit a movie. People can also call Madonna names and praise Lupone all they want but there is a reason Madonna's net worth is about 100x that of Lupone.

Miss Lupone should have been more tactful in her criticism of " Buenos Aires" and at least offered a more professional critique of Madonna's performance other than just saying "it was a piece of shit." She worked and trained, cared for and developed her voice to deliver that musical in the best way possible. Some people saying Patti is/was bitter about not getting asked to play Eva in the movie need to have a clue what they're talking about. LuPone WAS offered a role in the film: Eva's mother, which she rightfully denied. She was too old to play the part by the time the film came out and she knew that. Patti is not bitter, only stating her opinion which is a common one.

Love Patti Lapone, she is so talented, so accomplished, she has earned the right to say what she thinks. And she is honest, too, which is refreshing. There is no disputing that when you put Patti and Madonna side-by-side, they are artists of a different calibre. Patti is a Broadway master: the finest in both singing and acting, where as Madonna is a performer. And while Madonna may be entertaining, she is clearly out of her league when she attempts to act or sing in Broadway musicals. She should leave Broadway to the masters like Patti Lapone, Bernadette Peters, Ruthie Henshall, and stick to concert stadiums.

"A League of their Own" is an ensemble cast and the main character focus is Geena Davis and Tom Hanks. Madonna and the others were part of an ensemble, you just saw bits and pieces of Madonna in some scenes but she wasn't the main focus. If Madonna ever does another movie, she should be part of an ensemble cast. I'm a fan of her music and Patti is right, she's great at what she does as a performer (of her own music).

Madonna is a horrible actress period. doesn't matter what movie she's in. Evita is her best film role that she ever gotten which requires very little acting and most of it is singing, and even that people can't seem to vote for her for an oscar nomination. the golden globe that she won over frances macdormand in fargo, is a joke. the only thing Madonna is good at is perform on stage with her own music. her song writing skill is very reductive, and her singing skill is borderline below average. her only talent she has is she works like a dog, never gives up until she gets what she wants.

The "fan" you are referring to was a celebrity prankster named Vitalii Sediuk who was trying to get a reaction from Madonna, and she knew it. And if you watch that video, she did accept the flowers. She did not throw them back. And Madonna is gracious to her true fans. Proof can be seen from the completely free show she performed for her fans in Australia last year, the soundchecks where she invites the fans waiting out on the street to come inside to watch and she takes the time to talk with the people there, as well as holding sing-alongs with them. She's even been quoted saying she now considers several of the fans she's met at soundchecks to be her friends. Not to mention the pediatric hospital she's having built that will save thousands of children's lives in Malawi--a hospital that does not bear Madonna's name. She named it after her daughter, Mercy. Madonna is not nearly as cold as many people believe,

It's telling when someone stoops to that level to disparage another female and then get applauded for it. If Madonna had done this to Patti, the narrative would be much different. Well, she's not wrong. (The overpraising of Madonna in "Evita" - whose sterile performance put the 'auto' in 'automaton' - was ludicrous at the time, and remains so all these years later. Also, saying it's her "best role" is pure sophistry.) But, as much as I love her, LuPone isn't always that watchable on (big or small) screen either. Let's be honest. Both are monumental talents in their prospective fields. Madonna's "Blond Ambition" tour still remains one of the Top 5 concert experiences I've ever attended (all her concert tours that I've attended were pretty amazing). LuPone is a theater legend nonpareil. Most recently, her Mama Rose in "Gypsy" was one of the most transcendent performances I've been honored to witness. But never underestimate the deplorable Andy Cohen licking his putrid lips whenever a woman is pitted against another woman.

Frankly speaking, if it wasn't Madonna, the Evita story or musical wouldn't be so widely known. The movie soundtrack sold millions in the US and elsewhere, compared that to other musical soundtracks like CATS, EVITA was already a huge success. If it had been Patti or Elaine Paige on the movie, you could barely reach that level of impact. The movie had a box office at $141 million, which was pretty good for a musical movie, versus Cats (2019 film) at 75.5 million. Madonna might not be a good actress in many movies, she did pretty well in EVITA.
