It's also very true. Madonna is not a great singer or great dancer. Not bad, just not great.(Although she is a terrible actress). It doesn't mean she's not entertaining or doesn't deserve her success. Madonna's talent has come from packaging it all together into a very successful product. Cher, on the other hand, has great natural singing voice and an Academy Award. So there's defintely more raw talent. Even in interviews, it seems Madonna is playing a character more than being her true honest self. Whereas, Cher is always the same and a straight shooter.

I'm a huge fanatic of Madonna, but I actually didn't think Cher said anything that was untruthful. Madonna, especially in the early 90s, was known to be in-your-face and sort of rude...sort of like Edith Piaf was. Madonna is one of those people who tries not to give a crap and projects that. Madonna isn't the best singer, but Cher was absolutely correct in saying Madonna was one of the most creative people out there. She always had some point-of-view to express and understood and respected other artists in all sorts of field. She would study them and have it inform her own art. To me, that is what attracted me to Madonna...that and her social activism where her bluntness serves her well most of the time. Cher was probably really tired of answering questions about another artist, but Cher herself is such a brilliant singer and icon. Can't hate on her at all.

Agreed. I think Madonna's worst trait was not being humble or subtle in the way she conducted herself early on. The joke is, Michael Musto (Village Voice), I believe, was quoted as saying, in 1980, upon witnessing Madonna's early histrionics in a dressing room/bathroom towards other artists: "This girl is such a bitch! How does she think she's going to get anywhere in this business, when she steps on so many people, and is so rude and self-obsessed?!" And, I like/sometimes even love Madonna.

She had to have a lot of confidence because she had her odds stack against her. I think if Madonna early on had only half the confidence or arrogancy we would not have Madonna today. She would had wash up as a fail rock musician with her first label, without the religious controversy, bleach hair, Maripol look... Madonna wouldn't make it. She would ultimately either go hardcore (and become the Madonna she is today by the late 1980s but everything would been different) or she would had married someone in the music industry and become a one hit wonder.... just not the Queen of Pop because her time would had pass her. All though this is all hypothetical. Assuming she wasnt confident, she may just give up and become a housewife and move back home and went back to college. And Madonna became a music teacher and teaches in some high school in Detroit or the suburbs.

I actually think Madonna has a pretty and unique voice. I find it soothing to listen to, especially her ballads, I know for a fact that others agree. Her voice is extremely adaptable suiting various songs. She has a character voice that has a way pulling you in. She does not strain her vocals like many other female singers. That fact has actually enabled her to preserve her vocal chords all these years. That's a fact, I've read. She is also a skilled dancer. Anyway who's to define what talent is, it certainly is not Cher or anyone elses ( not that I dislike Cher) I think talent is like beauty in the way that is in the eye of the beholder.

I loved the 80's Madonna as a kid, but then i grew an adult brain, and now i can see all the things that my parents hated about her, when i look back now to her 80's heyday-i still love the music- but Madonna is hard to watch, she sort of gives off an air of arrogance mixed with insecure desperation, which i think Cher hinted at here.

Like I love Cher, even more, like her honesty is so refreshing, because honestly I feel the same way about Madonna, like Madonna used to be someone who I admired a great deal and I will say I think she's great at creating her own reality and reinventing herself.. however, after watching her and following her career through the years, I've grown not to like her .....like I just find her to be a very selfish "do anything to remain relevant" type of person, I mean even things she's done on a charitable level, in my opinion, ultimately were about her and how it would effect her image and persona, I just find Madonna to be incredibly narcissistic with a very Napoleon complex type personality..
