A lot of people are short changing this guy: he survived an abusive, alcoholic father, enlisted in the navy, became a navy seal, is a certified sniper, a special ops medic, served in one of most decorated seal units in combat with Jocko W. and Chris Kyle, finished his undergrad, was accepted into one of most difficult medical schools in the world, and was accepted and completed NASA astronaut training which had over 18000 people apply. By the way he is now the father and husband that he's own childhood family never had. He is 36 years old. It's mind blowing.

An "American" is a person natural born or naturalized in the United States, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, etc.- 14th Amendment of the US Constitution. Dr. Jonny Kim is an American because he was born in Los Angeles, California USA. Dr. Kim will never be "Captain America" to you because he doesn't look like Chris Evans but he is Captain America to me because he embodies the noble quality of Captain America by his selfless patriotism: volunteering to serve his country- the USA - as a highly decorated Navy Seal, earning his MD and becoming an Astronaut. @@jcreed09 An excellent post and yes, that made me cringe when I read what the person said about Dr.Kim and how he doesn't ''look American''. I'm not one to play the race-card but I'm not naive or stupid, either and racism(in it's different forms)DOES exist so when I hear someone say that someone who is part of a visible minority group and who was BORN in the country doesn't look American(and the clear implication being that ''American''is someone who is white),I see that as being vaguely racist and offensive(I'm pretty thick-skinned so I wasn't personally offended by the comment but I have no problem calling out racism when and where I see it and identifying it as such). And the funny part is that there has been a non-white(black)Captain America in the comic books(technically, two, Isiah Bradley and then Sam Wilson AKA ''The Falcon'')but the person would probably just see them as ''Captain Africa''instead of Captain America. But yes, Dr.Kim is undoubtedly a real-life Super Hero! Perhaps at some point in the future,he'll go into acting and writing and even politics!

I'm a med student currently on my clinical years. Been facing a hard time these past years mainly due to a heartbroken hahaha (cliché I know). I became so lazy, slacker, had some difficulty to learn and focus, constant burnout is the worst. I then realized I need to move on, get up and change for good. Thank God I came across this figure. This man has inspired me so much to become more disciplined and work hard. Thank you!!

Jonny Kim's resume is so incredible, if you looked at it without knowing who he is, you'd swear it was a case of stolen valor. No way anyone can be so accomplished. He's the real deal though and a great example to all us.
