I picked up two habits in a month. Daily chewing gum and drinking black coffee. Two things I never did before and now I developed diminished hearing in one ear and a constant light hum. It feels like when I’m in a plane during takeoff. I can’t pop that ear using the Valsalva or the Eustachi tool. I do hear a little bit of a clicking thinking the tube may be closed but my causes seem open tube related since I haven’t had a flu or a cold. My dilemma is the treatment for both is different. So I’m not sure if taking steroids or antihistamines is making it worse if it is stuck open. Usually if the tube is open you hear your breathing and voice more but my symptoms with the diminished hearing seem like it’s closed. Not sure which one I have?

In 2017, after a plane ride, my ears took a while to equalize. I then attempted to encourage my ears open myself various ways. I purchased an ear popper from target and upon using it , I began to hear a crackle when I swallow. To this day, I still hear it. The crackle is not as loud as it used to be. I went to several ENT doctors back then. He said my tubes are closed but opens abnormally. I don’t have the classic symptoms of patulous , but there is a crackle . In hindsight, I should have allowed my ears to pop on their own. I was dealing with sinus issues at time and didn’t know. My ears were draining. I was unable to hear clearly , and they were ringing. Can my issue be fixed without surgery ?

I still have a subtle crackle but I don’t have traditional PET. I don’t heartbeat, my breathing. and sounds are not amplified . Life is good!! 🙏🏾

Sir plz reply me... I live in another country..that is why I can't visit your clinic..But I trust you only.. I am diagnosed with PET..and my Doctor is suggesting me to have Grommet..but I'm not satisfied...plz tell me that grommet will permanently heal eustachian tube??? Or temporary?? As it is costly so I can't take risk

Grommet insertion may help you. It should by T tube insertion rather than grommet. Teflon insertion around eustachian opening also will help Subannular grommet insertion is also an alternative
