Hey, thanks for the song. Your Name is still one of my faves. You keep saying E5 throughout the song and displaying E2 that is carrying the same shape. I am not trying to get a free lesson but wouldn't an E5 be adding the fifth note in the E scale? I am thinking is a B. And the E2 is adding the second note in the E scale that would be an F#?

I like to play this with G shapes at Capo 4 (key of B), it's not as high for a female lead. Thanks for the great video lesson.

This is guitar 101, unfortunately most young players 14 to 35 can't even play a decent lead any longer. The musicianship in Christian Contemporary Music is ZERO. Everyone sounds like U2's The Edge, tons of delay and the same licks and fills, over and over and over and over.

Yeah because an ability to shred on a guitar is what worship is about. In the first place too much of anything is distracting. Second point I make is worship should draw peoples attention onto Jesus not the musician. I know a very talented rock musician who keeps worship simple and does the crazy stuff on stage with his band. I knew a guy in church who refused to play because he was a master in guitar and "didnt want to blow the worship band away with his talent". I a guess i am saying its not about you...get over yourself...one hand clapping for you talents.

I do see your point, however, many of the fills and intros could have a bit more originality without overshadowing the worship. I have played in many church bands and for the most part the musicianship is horrible and this is due in part to musicianship as a whole is very poor in the last 20 years.

His point IS the point. lol Most people who are part of a worship band in the local church (and are VOLUNTEERS mind you...are regular people and not Berklee trained musicians) have not played an instrument for their entire lives like you Tony. Unless you are at a mega church, most small to mid-size congregations have to do what they can just to fill the platform each and every week. Have you met Paul Baloche? Have you spent 5 minutes with the man? I have...for many years sir and trust me if he wanted to, he could easily "shred" or create ridiculously musically complicated songs to show off his and his band's musicianship....but he doesn't because He know who his music is for....its for God and the church. His bass player, Michael Rossback is a musical genius but doesn't need to show it all the time to impress people.Think how awesome it would be if guys like you wrote songs that were filled with arpeggios, changed keys 3 times and were overflowing with incredible syncopation and written in keys like Dbminor with a solo section for each instrument so your band can show off how great we are..... Your congregation would sit there with their hands folded waiting for the sermon.....Cmon man..... Worship is a CORPORATE activity and must be written with the people in mind....That isn't what these guys and so many others are about man. I've been a worship leader for more than 20 years and I would easily choose someone who is an average musician but is in love with Christ and understands the "less is more" concept of worship over someone who can play every note in every key at every speed. Now I do agree with you that the whole genre of worship albums is getting over the top with the cookie cutter etherial pads on every song and overused Christian Cliche's but if you do a little research, you might just find some gems of creativity and honest worship from groups like.... The Royal Royal, Rend Collective, City Harmonic, Fernando Ortega, Iron Bell, Zachary Williams...the list goes on....Not EVERY band sounds like U2...but see your view is skewed because you only hear certain bands on the radio..I challenge you to check some of these guys out and then tell me there is no musicianship.... lol peace.
