Saw Butterfield at the Capitol theatre in Port Chester NY. Early '70's..awesome show.

Paul Butterfield shows were supreme. You got your money's worth. The shortest night that I saw them was a 3 hr set. The longest was 5 hours with barely a break. Once was 2 sets of 2 hours each.

Ralph Wash-gtr (took Buzzy Feiten's place), Trevor Lawrence-baritone sax, Rod Hicks-bass, Dennis Whitted -dms (took Philip Wilson's place; Dennis sounds great but Philip brought so much depth ) Steve Madeo-tpt, Gene Dinwiddie-tenor sax, the unmistakable David Sanborn-alto sax. Gene introduces the band at 1:00. Sadly Teddy Harris (keys) was not in attendance. Paul playing Wurly on Get together Again.

This is more than just a Butterfield bootleg, it is quality evidence of what a monster Paul was on the harp. As much as I love both his debut recording and East-West, I'd venture to say that it was with the big band that he really shined. His ability in live performances to play on and on and then finally breaking back into the vocals without missing a step was unbelievable. While his playing on the first two records was impressive, his live performances with the second edition band was nothing short of exciting.

So Far So Good-Sounds like Gene soloing on soprano. Interesting since Sanborn's soprano solo on In My Own Dream is f***ing iconic.

His band never missed a step with guitar players.. every one of them brought such an interesting character to the band. Ralph Wash a whole of the vibe then Buzz Feiten. And I just love Buzz… I think it was a real shame that he eventually broke the band up.. if I was giving him advice, I would’ve told him to take a break.. find a new company… And keep what was a really good thing going.. I really like better days as well but it just seems after that he really lost his mojo and vibe after Albert Grossmman died.. He was a great innovator, and an extremely excellent risk taker with his music.. one of the reasons I got into it because of him..

Had the pleasure of chatting with Butter when he played at the University of Vermont in 1969. Definitely a cool dude. Such a wicked bummer that he split our scene by shooting a lethal dose.

As much as I love the first two albums this version of the band was the peak of Butter's career IMHO. By "this version" I mean after "In My Own Dream". I first saw them before Keep on Moving was out with Buzz Feiten on guitar. Him and a few members were replaced over the next two years but the band just kept getting better and tighter. The double live album that came after Keep On Moving should have been a massive success. It was but sales didn't show that. In fact they had been declining due to new bands such as Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, etc. Sometimes I Can't Keep From Smiling was the end of this era. Low sales plus the expenses of touring with a large band such as this were just too much. Paul formed Better Days which was good but not the same. The band here had progressed to doing avant guard jazz combined with of course blues, R and B, Soul, and even a little pop (Love March). I especially like the jazz that the horn section gets into, especially Gene's sax. Great band and should have been hugely successful. There are many other bands that did not get their just due as well.

I feel that as good as this is- It was somehow, kinda lazy, and overBLOWN, but i may be wrong.It just doesn't have that heartbreaking urgency an sheer electric intensity; that say the first 2or three early BUTTERFIELD records personified(IMHO). Still good though!!

Yes everyone from the original band gone. But members on the Pigboy Crabshaw album such as Dave Sanborn, Steve Madio, and Gene Dinwiddie still in.
