My dad was working around the block in Manhattan. It was a busy time of year during Christmas season. The city was bustling with shoppers and tourists. I was 9 years old at the time. It was plastered on the cover of every newspaper in town. I clearly remember the picture of Bilotti spread eagle on the pavement and Big Paul’s legs hanging out on the sidewalk. I didn’t understand the significance of it at the time. What an amazing snapshot of the 80’s and mob history.

Remember this night like it was yesterday, Tommy's older brother Joey was like an uncle to me growing up. I was going down to my parents house on the Jersey shore to drop off some gifts to put under the tree and raid my stepfather's swag, starting the first week of Dec. All kinds of gifts would start arriving at the house for him, cases of wine, cases of delicacies, and my favorite cases of Expresso beans soaked in amaretto, frangelica, and other appatives, which I would regift for my friends parents. As soon as I walked in the house I knew something was wrong my mother was teary eyed and my stepfather was frozen at the table watching the news and didn't even noticed I entered. RIP TB

@@helenspagnuolo6060 I heard that rumor once in my entire life, around 96, from a friend who was very well informed. I'll tell you the same thing in I told him, you have been misinformed, you know you can't believe any of this shit, guys still holding grudges try to disparage his name, Tommy was a man's man, he grew up right, I was friends with a couple of his kids, frenemies with his oldest. I worked at his bakery. Tommy and his brother Joey would never tolerate any of that shit like that never mind participate. That was 30 years ago, you think I'm going to believe anything a bunch of rats say, to stir up drama for dollars. I'm going to share something with you, I don't know why but the general public fall for this honorable men, that only tell lies to the police and their wives. They fail to realize that in order to survive and thrive as a wiseguy you have to be a masterful liar, and manipulator, if you want to be a well rounded criminal you better know how to run a gambit of scams and cons, and I guarantee you there's probably not a gangster in the history of the LCN who has not at least lied once to a superior or a colleague to save either their life or the life of a friend or an associate. Nevermind when it comes to money, if you were honest about your scores and let your capo or boss divvy it up, you would starve to death. The better the liar, the better your chances of moving up the ladder. The only reason I'm alive and a free man is because, I got an early start in the art of lying, by the time I was in my 20s, I was a liar savant, the couple of times I had to go to court order psychiatrists, by the 4th or 5th week, they would be telling me their problems. That being said, as impressive as my lying was, I will acknowledge that those names you dropped with the rumors about TB, all high level confidence men, and I mean no disrespect by that, but that doesn't mean I'm going to believe everything they say, and as for this statement about TB, I'm 99.99999% sure it's bullshit. I wish I could say 100% sure, but I also learned early on you can never know anyone 100%, guys who thinks that's possible, usually don't laste very long either. RIP JB RIP TB

Knowing he was going down, I don’t think he would have turned state’s evidence and sold out. He was traditional old school Mafia, plus where would he go exactly to continue living had he sold out? The west coast, Italy perhaps? No. He wouldn’t last 5 minutes in open air and he knew it, so what happened to him, although horrific, was a blessing. No sympathy for him or Bilotti, but Bilotti’s wife who I understand, was pregnant at the time. For her to lose her husband and her children to be without a father, is a tough break. @@unknownsource4359 indeed he was a real Don, but he didn’t kill Gotti. He fucked up with Vic & Gas. Then Chin called it even. Gotti got the picture. He understood it was supposed to be him that got hit. But Gotti & Chin broke bread after that.

There are four documented and well publicized mob hits forever burned into my mind... Albert Anastasia in 1957, Carmine Galante in 1979, Philly Boss Angelo Bruno in 1980, and this one! BTW, exactly how long did the corpses lay there before the meatwagon finally took them away?
@joea678 ай бұрын
Agree on those 4. A few other ones Joe Messeria with the ace of spades in his hand, Bugsy Seagal eye shot out, St. Valentine's Day massacre many others but I like your top 4.

Same here . Those 4 hits are the ones I always think of first when mob hits are mentioned..

Hours, they were still out there when friends and I passed through 46th St, couldn't get too close, cops were everywhere. Could see the outstretched legs of Mr. Castellano from the Lincoln and Mr. Bilotti splayed out under a sheet in early evening until around 7 - 8pm. I take it EMT were prepping him then for the gurney in that the legs were stretched out as though he were just laying down as opposed to crumpled (in Lincoln door jam). Could have been later, we left to go party, lol It was the Christmas holiday season.

I think Don Carlo should have legitimized the entire family before he passed. That way, there legal enterprises would generate sufficient income, so they would no longer need to participate in as many rackets. Perhaps this is what he wanted Paul castellano to do, but Gambino should have known that Castellano was a fox (more or less), and Aniello was a Lion, (surrounded by a pack of wolves). Obviously, Don Carlo was both. Without Don Carlo's leadership, a legitimate family, and the presence of Federal RICO laws; the mafia was already doomed.

@@SimpleLivings i agree but with that being said think about what Gotti used to get the other capos to agree with making a move against paulie, paulie was a hellova legit buisness man. and Gotti and them only knew the street rackets and they preached that’s where this thing was built off of. neil was more ol school and respected the rules that kept them going for almost a century. Gotti and them were street thugs.
