Great nostalgia. Ironically I visited Longleat that summer when the Dr. Who exhibition was still running.

The trick with blank cards is called a nudist deck,it was also in his range of magic called the great blank card trick.

Craftmanship of the highest order. The tragedy of Paul Daniels was that people took his craftmanship for granted and began to focus more and more on his mannerisms. The mannerisms defined the performer, and not his supreme skill. That is a mistake that time will correct, I think.

I thought the red herring was a lovely little touch. It's the way he teases the audience, knowing their natural thought process as the trick progresses, and turns it on them. He did that quite a lot in his routines, he was one of the absolute best at controlling the journey his audience took.

Totally agree! A true pro, so smooth, so well practiced, such variety ... and he did it for so many years. Don't think we'll see anyone else achieve the same heights again!
