What was so scary about Paul Dano’s Riddler is that he looked like a completely normal guy. Which unfortunately is how the most despicable serial killers look.

True, all jokers had that disconnect with the makeup, and so did Pauls Riddler when he had the mask on, but something just elevates when he goes unhinged just as himself, despite we already knowing its a human under there.

My favorite aspect of this take on Riddler is that when they reveal his identity and you see his face it doesn’t look like the face of a killer. He just looks like an innocent, quiet kid who wouldn’t hurt a fly. That appearance makes Dano’s performance all the more chilling.
@RegalRoyalWasTaken

Seeing his face genuinely scared me. He has such a gentle face... but the expressions he makes are the expressions of an unhinged madman. The contrast is so incredible. ESPECIALLY when he started singing. That had the potential to be really stupid, but with context and his performance, it became a perfect taunt.

I thought it was a brilliant performance - now I want to check out his other work. Re: school shooter/ incel vibe. I definitely picked up on a unique take of a person with a social-skill deficit. I also got the sense that they were stepping very lightly around dropping direct diagnoses regarding mental & neurological status. Which is to say that I read the portrayal as wanting to depict a socially inept genius with a warped sense of reality without naming Asperger's/ ASD or any particular mental illness. Regardless, I think his performance was great regardless of how he got there.

During those videos Riddler makes he is hamming it up with all that yelling and wild close-ups. While doing his crimes he is cold and efficient killer with a mission. Then that last message to his followers is just calm, relaxed and honest despite him being in Riddler's persona. That makes it real jarring as that cold, calculating and blunt killer can actually relate and show gratitude.

Glad someone else noticed the similarity in vibe and feel to the movie. With Batman’s Monologuing reminding me of Rorshack from The Watchmen, another 3 hour gritty Noir detective story, and the city itself being a creepy, stoic and depressing character in the story like in Se7en, I found the Batman to have some heavy influences from some great movies and even from the grittier Mark Millar Detective comics. Paul dano is one of the best actors of my generation. There are some actors who will never disappoint, he is one. whenever I see a movie he is going to appear in, I know it will be good (as a reminder, this is my opinion, take that as you will). One of my favorites is Swiss army man, crazy as it is. But he is at that point in his career where he can pick ones he is devoted to, which is better for us all. Can’t wait for whatever else he chooses.

Haven't seen this guy before and only seen this little clip of the Batman. In my opinion so far he did a great job of giving off vibes of "I'm insane." Will give the rest of the movie a chance before passing judgement.

First of all, Paul Dano’s acting in the Batman is phenomenal. I want to go on and say that he deserves an award for this role. Just, nailed it as a Riddler. But I also want to notice how good of an interviewer Seth is. So calm and nice to guests, has no “question cards” to help him, just himself, talking to guests, his interviews always go smooth. So pleasant to watch and listen. Great job!

I actually enjoyed Paul's performance in The Batman however, before to see The Batman, I saw a couple of movies of his, and one of them was Swiss Army Man, and since that time, I became fan of Paul. In fact, he said in an interview "he'd love to meet Jim Carrey", who played the first Riddler in Batman forever.
