what i read is that the ostjuden were for many centuries extremely prosperous. What happened is that by the 19th century or slightly before, they were so many ostjuden that they had to start doing jobs like woodcutting and a lot of them fell into poverty, for malthusian reasons basically. Your typical ostjuden woodcutter probably had ancestors who were prosperous merchants, money-lenders, etc...

You're confusing Freud's theory of "transference" with Jung's theory of "projection," and the reason why these two are fundamentally different is because of their radically different takes on "libido." But this is something you would not understand unless you had actually read both men. Though both use the same word, they both mean very, very different things. In this specific case, in which Gilad speaks of grandfather attributing his own desires on the Palestinians, it is Jungian projection, it is not "Freudian projection" (?). Sorry to call you out, but in trying to correct me, you have made a fool of yourself to anyone who has actually done a depth reading of both men.
