The Hibiscus donut from DOUGH is exceptional. They used to be a stand at the market with a 20/30min queue every weekend...they absolutely deserve their success.

Just tried Dough for the first time a few weeks ago. Dare I say, I prefer it to Doughnut Plant. I love the Hibiscus as well, but my fav is the Blood Orange. Surprising as I'm typically a chocolate frosted or caramel flavored type of guy...so I thought either the Mocha frosted or the Dulce de Leche with almonds would be my favorite. The Passion is very good but has a bit too much of a "floral" aftertaste for my taste. The Raspberry Lemon is also darn good and can't go wrong with the Plain Glazed.

I'm crying right now. This brings back my college years. When I went to Parsons, I grabbed Murray's bagels for breakfast. Once the class was over, I walked over to Dough to get a hibiscus donut. Sometimes I would take a stroll down Central Park with a cup of coffee. Seeing Paul experience my fondest memory makes me so happy.

Tried the 24 no-knead bread. Total game changer! I have made it even easier by not pre-heating the pan and oven. Just let it proof in a Dutch Oven and put it in a non pre-heated oven. Turn the oven on and bake for 50 to 60 minutes on 250°C, keep the lid on all the time.

"Hard water or soft water?" "Tap water." Relevant fact: NYC water is quite soft. Not sure if that came up elsewhere in their conversation, but a lot of NYC bread things are credited to that water (bagels, pizza dough), so it's probably worth noting. There are serious fans of the city water. Having also grown up where the water is fairly soft, I didn't really get it, it just tasted normal to me, but I've realized that it's mostly in comparison to water that tastes very mineral-y.

When he asked soft or hard and he said just regular tap, I thought that’s misleading because NYC is known for its amazing tap water which is soft like you mentioned, and yes the water us credited for much of the cities flavor in food.
@TheElitist26
@TheElitist26 4 жыл бұрын
It's not really worth mentioning because it's perpetuating a myth that just doesn't seem to die, i.e., NYC's tap water is what makes their baked goods "good." A quick google search will bring up dozens of articles debunking this myth.

I'm going to go on a self righteous rant here but go make some yourself. A lot of the common complaints is people say they don't have the knowledge or tools; both are accumulated through time. Learn as you go, accumulate the ingredients, equipment, et through time. I've been learning myself lately and have made recipes I haven't made ever in my life. Some failures, some success, all very satisfying.

Going into a food comma just watching this 😆. You can't leave out Magnolia Bakery and SO many more!!! The best cheesecake we had in NYC was given to us free at a local deli/grocery store. OMG it was amazing 😮. Hope the plane could take off easily on your way home, lol. 🥖🥯🍩🍰👨🏻‍🍳🗽

hah, i couldnt wait to leave NYC! there is no green space and it gets too hot and extremely humid. i need my land, my garden, my free range chickens, and most importantly, my fresh air and no more 24/7 noise. my kids have room to play and grow and understand the earth and self sustainability.

I love, this show...I first watched it around 2 years ago and couldn't find it since, it just shows up randomly on the tv and i don't really watch the tv anymore so i could never find it. Its definitely a runner up for one of the best food shows. Sadly Bourdain is no longer around but there's still lots of great shows, hopefully we'll see the Bake Off back and running again with the new host Matt Lucas, and Action Bronsons always comes out with some new food shows -- Gino Da Campo he's had some good ones.

@John Gilmore When I was a lot younger...like in elementary school, my sister and I "discovered" Krispie Kreme and spent a lot of our spare change there. Then, a few years later, I discovered Dunkin Donuts. Krispie Kreme ironically does NOT sell anything remotely crispy, never did, and that's why I liked them. Dunkin, at one time, made crispy doughnuts...now they taste like cupcakes with a hole in the center. My current favorite is a small chain called Daylight Donuts, they have a few variations Dunkin (as far as I know) does not have. I love the Red Velvet donuts.
