That match @ the former "Marathon Stadium" in Newcastle, way back in August 1995, was truly epic! What a monumentally titanic battle it was! 👌🏻

Mark Carroll now with likely CTE. Really hope the NRL starts looking after these old blokes. Gave us so many good memories but now left to suffer as a result.

Went to Uni in Newie in the 90s, grew up in western Sydney in the 70s/80s. As a kid I was taken to Lidcombe to see the Fibros vs Silvertails war, then I saw Newie play Manly at Marathon in 95… it was exactly the same atmosphere and feeling, what a day.

This is what the rest of the world that don't play Rugby League, or isn't big in their country can't appreciate or realize. Just how bloody tough Australian athletes can be. Mark Carrol and Paul Harragon are some if not the toughest players to ever put on a their club jersey, NSW jersey and Kangaroo jersey. Of course there are other tough players in the game of Rugby League, but Cheif and Spud - damn! What absolute warriors.

Back in the real rugby league era players played for each other, the club and would have played for free.

Not just great players, but also very fine people. I met Spud at coffee shop around the corner from his Gym. You could not meet a nicer person. I hope he is ok.
