Paul Hindemith: English Horn Sonata (1941)

Why on Earth isn't this instrument more popular? It has such a melancholy tone.

I play oboe and have wanted to play EH for so long. I’m beyond happy that I finally get to play it.

I love this piece (and always have - it made me want to play the English horn, which unfortunately I was never able to do), and I enjoyed the English horn playing very much. But am I the only one who thinks the piano is occasionally too loud, overwhleming the soloist? (Edit: after multiple hearings I feel this complaint may be mostly unjustified, but I am curious if any others have a similar sense.)

Maybe a bit.. probably the piano wasn't miked properly or the mix was a bit careless. I played this for my graduation recital in 1983.. no recording, the Theatre department was responsible for that.. they turned on the recorder and walked away, the result was almost inaudible... Before Hindemith you'd have to reach back to JS Bach to find music as "cerebral" 🤔...
