Everybody's talking about the killer tone of this bass, but have you noticed the genius of the bass line itself? The notes are low during the verses, then get higher step by step during the chorus, literally coming up... like a flower :)

@@TJH3113 Actually, in those days people started to discover that Yamaha makes pretty damn awesome instruments with high profile players like Bruce Springsteen, John Denver, Paul Simon and John Lennon adopting their acoustic guitars and players like Carlos Santana, Bob Marley, Andy Taylor (Duran Duran) and Tito Jackson (The Jackson five, the Jacksons) adopting their electric guitars. But the Broad Bass series which Paul is playing here, became a million seller with people like Nathan East (Phil Collins, Eric Clapton), Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order), Bill Wyman (Rolling stones) adopting those basses.

One of the rare Paul songs that is definitely better in this live version than the studio original. The raspy vocals here are the crucial difference, along with the punchier horns. As others have noted, his bass playing here is superlative. What a genius.

ATG vocal performance by anyone in my opinion. If all he'd ever done was this one performance in his whole life, I'd still have him top 10 pop/rock musicians ever. As it stands, he's top 2 or 3 easily. The effortlessness of these perfect roars just dumbfound me still after 20 years.

I feel obliged to point out that the title is a little misleading, Paul and Wings playing IN Kampuchea in 1979 would have been a little odd. I mean, maybe he would have liked to play a concert for the Khmer Rouge, maybe Pol Pot was a fan... but it's unlikely that he did.

Flawless performance! This could be a studio album version. Paul is truly a legend! My only wish was that this wasn’t 9 years after the Beatles broke up. They were all alive when this was performed, could've still been together.

The Concert for Kampuchea (subtitled "Rock for Kampuchea") is a musical film from the best of the Concerts for the People of Kampuchea. The film was directed by Keith McMillan and was 4 nights of concerts in Hammersmith Odeon to raise money for Cambodia. The event was organized by Paul McCartney and Kurt Waldheim (who was then Secretary-General of the U.N.), and it involved well-established artists such as McCartney, The Who and Queen as well as younger punk and new wave acts like The Clash and The Pretenders. The film finishes with the presentation of Wings' Rockestra (more of 25 musicians playing together). Filmed in 1979, Concert for Kampuchea did not receive American theatrical distribution until it was picked up by Miramax in 1988.[1]

He was probably thinking what an amazing time to be alive He has his three daughters and son a this point and he’s had so much success with the Beatles and Wings and a little by himself This before he got arrested and at this point he’s probably thinking how great it is that even though they aren’t close that he’s once again friends with the other three Beatles However this feeling all ended in December of the following year which is so sad The only think that can be said is that he at least had some pretty good solo albums and quite a few great songs after this

I saw Wings on this tour in a small cinema in Lewisham London. Up close you could tell this talent came easy to McCartney, He effortlessly switched from bass to piano and guitar for 20 flight rock. The ensemble played Band On The Run as an encore, and Paul sang Yesterday solo as the very last song.
