The Concert for Kampuchea (subtitled "Rock for Kampuchea") is a musical film from the best of the Concerts for the People of Kampuchea. The film was directed by Keith McMillan and was 4 nights of concerts in Hammersmith Odeon to raise money for Cambodia. The event was organized by Paul McCartney and Kurt Waldheim (who was then Secretary-General of the U.N.), and it involved well-established artists such as McCartney, The Who and Queen as well as younger punk and new wave acts like The Clash and The Pretenders. The film finishes with the presentation of Wings' Rockestra (more of 25 musicians playing together). Filmed in 1979, Concert for Kampuchea did not receive American theatrical distribution until it was picked up by Miramax in 1988.[1]

Sitting in the stands of the sports arena Waiting for the show to begin Red lights, green lights, strawberry wine A good friend of mine follows the stars Venus and Mars are alright tonight What's that man holding in his hand? He looks a lot like a guy I knew way back when It's Silly Willy with that Philly band Could be, ooh-ee [Verse 2] Tell me, what's that man movin' cross the stage? It looks a lot like the one used by Jimmy Page It's like a relic from a different age Could be, oo-ee [Chorus] If there's a rock show at the Concertgebouw They've got long hair at Madison Square You've got rock and roll at the Hollywood Bowl We'll be there, oh yeah [Bridge] The lights go down, they're back in town--O.K Behind the stacks, you glimpse an axe The tension mounts you score an ounce--ole! The temperatures rise as you see the whites of their eyes [Chorus] If there's a rock show at the Concertgebouw You've got long hair at Madison Square They've got rock and roll at the Hollywood Bowl We'll be there, oh yeah [Bridge 2] In my green metal suit, I'm preparing to shoot up the city And the ring at the end of my nose makes me look rather pretty It's a pity there's nobody here to witness the end Save for my dear old friend and confidante, mademoiselle Kitty [Verse 3] What's that man moving to and fro? That decibel meter doesn't seem to be reading low But they was louder at the Rainbow Could be, ooh-ee [Chorus] If there's a rock show at the Concertgebouw They've got long hair at Madison Square You've got rock and roll at the Hollywood Bowl We'll be there, oh yeah [Outro] If there's a rock show at the Concertgebouw They've got long hair at Madison Square You've got rock and roll at the Hollywood Bowl Rock show Long hair Rock and roll If there's a rock show If there's a rock show If there's a rock show

This would have been a good time to go see Paul, back when he started back to doing some of his Beatles material. While he still had his voice.

Paul was a guitar player who took up the bass for the good of the band, deferring to George and John. It’s one of the great things that made the Beatles so good. The bass becomes in Paul McCartney’s hands not just a member of the rhythm section, but another voice, so to speak, in the songs. He’s a genius composer but also a consummate musician.

I really like Paul McCartney for his songs and musicianship but I have to say that Johnny Burnett's version in 1956 is MUCH better than Paul's. Paul's version is a bit chaotic and Paul's voice is not even close to what it used to be.

At 8:03 …. that brief solo has to be the greatest series of notes ever played on a minimoog. From the notes using the A major scale and their order of succession, to the rhythm she plays then, to the settings on the synthesizer itself that give it that character it has using the low frequency oscillator set to track off the pitch, and the main frequency cutoff filter’s decay rate set at just the right time, and the 2 oscillators responsible for the overall tone and pitch of the minimoog itself… one of them sounds like it’s set using a triangle waveform 1 octave above the other oscillator Yeah… they are very complex instruments. Playing them is the easy part. It’s actually learning how the unit functions that Is an entire lesson in electronics, physics, wiring diagrams, and tone building models and procedures
